Considering the man was 90 and had just lost his wife last year, this isn't a huge surprise... just very sad to lose his voice from the airwaves (IIRC, I heard him on the air just a week or so ago). I grew up on Air Force Bases, where his show was usually heard on Armed Forces radio (at least in those areas without a large local radio selection) and when I was really young and prone to misunderstanding cause and effect, I thought the Noon testing of the Base sirens was a signal that his show was about to begin. Gonna really miss hearing the rest of the story...

Date: 2009-03-01 03:52 am (UTC)I heard a recent commercial he made just last Friday, and I thought his voice sounded just so old. That was the first time I thought his age was really, really evident.
RIP, Paul Harvey. Now you know the rest of the story.
