Christmas Music

fenchurchAnd now, some of my favorite versions of a few Christmas songs! Unfortunately, I couldn't find any videos using songs from one of my favorite albums: Oy to the World: A Klezmer Christmas by The Klezmonauts. It just isn't Christmas until I've heard "Jingle Bells" in Yiddish or their jolly, fast paced "Santa Geh Gezunder Heit!" I've heard the album described as "a true collision of cultures" but I still think it's wonderful.
"Mary's Boy Child" by Boney M:
"Carol of the Bells" by Deana Carter -- this song is probably my favorite, in general, but I find this version particularly appealing.
"Jingle Bell Rock" by Billy Idol. Yes, really. I must admit that there may just be something slightly creepy about the somewhat manic grin he's wearing throughout this song. I actually love all the songs on this album, but very few of them are available on YouTube.
Oh! I did find my favorite from that same album: "Here Comes Santa Claus" by Billy Idol
Then there's "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen/We Three Kings" by Barenaked Ladies and Sarah McLachlan.
Sadly, no sign of "The Boar's Head" by Maddy Prior with The Carnival Band out on YouTube. But here's a favorite from my childhood, "Sleigh Ride" by The Ventures. Oh yeah... surfin' Christmas music!
