On the road
Dec. 14th, 2008 01:45 pmPortland roads were a nightmare and I'm so glad we had chains on the car. However, when we crossed the Columbia River into Vancouver, WA the roads were suddenly just bare and wet, with considerably less snow falling. We filled up at CostCo then stopped at Sweet Tomatoes for lunch (Vancouver has the only Sweet Tomatoes in the state and, amazingly, I actually still had the coupons they handed us at the Sweet Tomatoes in Phoenix. And I could even find them to use!
By the time we were done with lunch the snow had caught up with us, but was still not majorly sticking to the roads. It's cleared up steadily as we've driven north, so that now the roads are bare and mostly dry. We'll see how long that lasts... Before we left the hotel, the route home was listed as being orange and red on Weather.com's travel page. With any luck it will stay this good for us the rest of the way.
