One of [livejournal.com profile] rackham's younger sisters, J, arrived in town this evening to visit for a week and we decided to take her out to dinner at the Celtic Bayou (it's a restaurant with Cajun, Irish and British food... and an Irish brewpub). I've eaten there a few times before and the food is always good, it's just in an awkward place to get to, so we haven't been very often. Tonight, J ordered lemonade with her meal... and had just commented that she'd gotten it because she didn't feel like having anything carbonated when the waitress brought it out for her. Rackham mentioned that it actually looked pretty carbonated to him, which of course got my attention... and I tried a sip. It was lemon squash.

There's not enough squee in the world to describe my reaction. And yeah, I ordered my own after that... and apparently kept getting this sort of blissful expression on my face every time I took a drink. I foresee weekly stops at the Celtic Bayou to get some lemon squash to go...

Mmmmmm... lemon squash...

I guess it must have seeped over from the Irish brewness of the place - I am pretty sure that the Irish, like us, use lemonade for the fizzy version and lemon squash for the unfizzy version. Which would appear to be the exact opposite of yourselves!

As far as I know, in the US Southwest, "lemonade" is un-fizzy, and if it's carbonated, it's just called "carbonated lemonade." *g* I never knew what "lemon squash" was... and had I known, I'd have told Fen we have two bottles in the fridge. I could have offered!
