Late this morning, I still needed to go for my daily walk/workout... [livejournal.com profile] rackham has the day off and is working on our Amazing Ever-Expanding Laundry Room Sink Replacement Project, which is very close to being done... but he needed some galvanized nails for something on the new countertop. Knowing they have said nails at the local Fred Meyer, we decided to combine tasks and walk there... it's about a mile and a half or so away.

It was great! I love walking with Rackham... we get to chat and we get exercise and this way we also get to pick up a few items at the store so it feels like we're actually accomplishing something. Then on the way back, around a few corners and just a few blocks from our house, it happened. OW! Yeah... a nice sharp sting on my wrist. No stinger stuck in, but I had knocked whatever it was away, so it's possible I dislodged the stinger. Great. I'm allergic to bee stings... not so much to wasps, hornets, etc. So, we hurry home, with some nice sharp pains in my arm, and the swelling starting up.

At this point, I'm pretty positive it wasn't a bee. I've got some swelling, a lot of redness, but nowhere near the way I reacted the last time I was stung by a bee (which was when I was 10). I've had ice on it and it doesn't seem to be spreading, but the swelling isn't really going down either. At least it doesn't hurt quite as badly. I've also put some Benadryl cream on it, but I don't know how helpful that's being with the ice probably wiping it right off. And yeah, I'm going to keep watching it and also watching for difficulty breathing (which happens with bee stings for me).

Stupid rassin' frassin' wasps. Ow.

Ow. I'm allergic to all kinds of insect venom. Yeah, makes living in the south an interesting experience in the summertime. I also don't smoke (yuck) but I keep a pack of cigarettes because the best thing for stings is wet tobacco. If you haven't had any luck getting the swelling to go down, you might try packing the area with the tobacco from a cigarette. You can put the ice pack over it because the wetness won't bother the tobacco. I swear, it's the only good use I know of for tobacco.

I am allergic to bee stings and was stings too. So I completely sympathize. I hope that you recover quickly.

I hope you'll be ok. I agree wholeheartedly on your assessment of the wasps.

Owie! I got stung on my finger a couple of nights ago. Wasps HURT even when all you do is get a little swelling, they have huge stingers.

yeah.. I was swarmed as a kid.. 3+ stings from hornets.. miserable day.. we have a nest of them in a wall outside our back door.. I can't get rid of them! tried multiple sprays, traps etc. but they're inside the wall where it's not affecting them. May have to wait for it to get cold and tear it open.. hate them!
