Sunday was our day off from booth duty, but there really wasn't a lot we wanted to see by that point. It was billed as "Kid Day" at the convention and most of the panels were geared more toward a much younger crowd. We did wander the show floor for a bit, even though we'd pretty much seen everything there already... then we headed up to the video replay of the Masquerade from the night before, getting to the room in plenty of time to watch [livejournal.com profile] jainamsolo and [livejournal.com profile] sirrogue's group's presentation, which was quite good and very funny.

We cut out of the Masquerade replay a bit early so that we'd be sure to get in line for the "Once More With Feeling" Sing-a-Long... assuming it would be really packed, but the line for it had not yet coalesced so we ended up sitting in on the end of the rather sparsely attended Deepak Chopra panel about spiritualism in comic books. It had actually sounded interesting in the description, but I don't think we were the only ones who found the whole thing more than a little confusing, judging by how many people were getting up and leaving (one of the panelists went on this long rambling diatribe that connected Abu Graib with global warming (?!?!?!) and Hurricane Katrina and seemed to end up simply listing things he didn't like. Or something. Honestly, it made absolutely no sense and didn't even really relate to anything else they'd been talking about.

The Sing-a-Long was a BLAST!! It's so funny, too, because things really do seem different when watched with a large crowd. Like Tara's song to Willow, which I always thought was fairly suggestive without being overdone, suddenly seemed almost lewd... with all of the cheering and hooting going on from the audience. ;-) I'm actually rather glad I hadn't watched the musical in awhile, because it all came back again how wonderful it was. Oh, and the crowd's favorite character? Spike. There was a huge uproar of cheering every time he hit the screen.

I'd been watching all weekend for [livejournal.com profile] redeem147 -- we always seem to end up bumping into each other at these big conventions. I'd seen no sign of her... and then when we were leaving (as in, we were approaching the crosswalk to cross the street away from the convention center), I looked up and there she was!!! Just in front of me. It always amazes me when I bump into people I know at these things.

We got back to the hotel room and started packing up, since we were planning on leaving quite early the next morning when [livejournal.com profile] cynthdiane checked out, but we started thinking about it and realized we were mostly just planning on hanging out in the room for the rest of the evening... so we went ahead and packed up and made the trek back to Redlands for the night.

Monday was spent at the San Diego Wild Animal Park with Rackham's twin sister, her husband and daughter. I did end up marveling quite a bit at the seemingly never-ending stamina of 3-year-olds... but we got to see a lot of stuff that I don't know if I would have gone to, if it weren't for my niece leading the way. The park, itself, is well worth the visit. Some incredible animals in settings that are much more like their natural habitats. And they have lots of babies right now, which was pretty cool to see.

Next up, we're about to head out for Monterey, with a quick swing through Rancho Cucamonga to stop at the Pinkberry there (it's the closest one on our route). Yeah, it's apparently true what they say about the stuff, because I've been wanting more ever since our first experience with their frozen yogurt last week.
