San Diego Comic-Con Day 1
Jul. 25th, 2008 09:07 amPosted a day late because I was so completely exhausted last night I could barely see straight. Yesterday included a lot more walking (for those who understand these things, I've racked up almost 30,000 steps in the last two days), lots of fun booths, still no panels or events, and two celebrity sightings.
For that last one,
rackham and I were walking around toward the end of the day and passed a booth with a very small crowd gathered... and someone holding a professional looking video camera (possibly some minor news outlet), pointing it at a guy playing with a baby. Kinda odd, but whatever... As we walked closer, watching the guy toss the baby in the air, it suddenly hit me that the man was John Barrowman! Who, btw, is just as freakily good looking in person as he is on the screen (I don't know why that sort of thing always surprises me when I see actors in real life, but it does). He was apparently in the booth with his sister to do autographs of their book... the funny part is that there was a sign posted stating things like "No flash photography. No hugs. No kisses. No photos with the actor." (All of which make a lot of sense, considering the venue). Apparently, none of that applied to babies though... because that child was getting some serious Barrowman cuddling. It was pretty cute.
And then when we were over by the California Browncoats booth (I wanted a new, smaller "Blue Sun" t-shirt, since my old one is now a tent on me), we bumped into Felicia Day... whoever referred to her as one of Whedon's Waifs was dead on. She's *teeny* tiny. She also seemed very friendly and had a great smile.
I actually had a lot of fun working at the booth yesterday... I'm doing "line management" which mostly means I get to answer the same questions over and over again while telling people where to queue up (it gets a little more complicated when the line gets overly long, but thankfully that's only happened once so far on my shift). But who knew *standing* could be so much more tiring than walking. Wow.
The only other big thing yesterday was donating blood... the folks at the San Diego Blood Bank really have the process down smoothly, and we were in and out fairly quickly. And, of course, there's the reason I put off donating blood so I'd be able to do it here... the goodie bag!! Lots of fun stuff in there, including a t-shirt and our choice of BtVS toy. I got a new Spike action figure, while
rackham (who was donating blood for the first time ever) picked up the BtVS PALZ Halloween pack. Shiny!
I'm hoping to actually make it to one of the events today... although I'm not holding my breath. The place is so packed that it's almost impossible to get into anything unless you can get there a few hours in advance.

And yes. Standing is infinitely harder to do that walking.
