Well, that made for a long day...

fenchurchToday was another followup appointment with my orthopaedic surgeon over in Colfax (on the other side of the state). It's about a four and a half hour drive over and another four and a half hour drive back... with a late lunch and the appointment wedged in between. Basically, we end up being gone for about 12 hours, and get pretty much nothing done for the day.
The big news is that today was very likely my last visit. She's really pleased with my progress and thinks I probably need about six more weeks of PT (and only once a week) just to make sure I'm staying on track and to work out any kinks that might show up. At the end of that, I'm supposed to drop her a note if everything is still great or make an appointment to come back in for another check, if I think I'm going to need more PT. I will say that if I ever need any sort of surgery on my shoulders again, I'll be back there like a shot... even though they are on the other side of the state. The care I've received has been excellent, and the surgery has been wonderfully successful.
The funny part was that my parents' friend S (he and his wife are basically my honorary aunt and uncle), who had shoulder replacement surgery a few months ago, was there for a followup appointment with the same surgeon... just coming out as we were arriving. Excellent timing! It was great seeing them again! (Even funnier, my mom had just barely called to see if we'd gotten there and if we'd seen them... and about thirty seconds later they walked out into the waiting room.)

anaross's fic "Long Day's Journey" out loud to rackham while he drove (reading fic is a time honored road-trip tradition for us) and listening to the "Dave Gorman: Genuis" CDs we got from the UK recently. That man never fails to deliver the funny, even when hosting what is essentially a game show (it's a radio show on BBC4 where people pitch ideas to a guest "genius" who then decides if it's clever enough for them to also be declared a genius -- some of the ideas are actually a lot of fun, like the guy who proposed filling bubble wrap with helium to lighten the weight on packages). I think we need to look at getting the second series CDs before our next roadtrip.
