*cough* *hack* *snorfle*
Jan. 15th, 2008 11:20 pmYes, I have the plague. Or the creeping crud. Or something equally horrible. It slammed into me on Friday after nearly a week of successfully being kept at bay (cold sores are annoying, but they're a great early warning system for these sorts of things). I keep starting to feel better, apparently overdoing it and then feeling worse the next day... and this weekend was the worst time for it, since my in-laws were visiting. And I like my in-laws... I would have much rather visited with them, instead of sleeping for most of Friday and Sunday. Blech.
Hopefully tomorrow it will have cleared up some more and WON'T move into my lungs, as these sorts of things are wont to do.
So, that's why I've been so quiet. When I haven't been sleeping, I've been watching television or playing Solitile and very occasionally checking my flist with very little hope of keeping up on things.
And now, snagged from several people on my flist:
Ten Top-Five Television Lists
These are all just off the top of my head and I suspect I'd be able to come up with better answers if I took the time to really think about it.
Back in the Day: 5 TV Shows You Loved As A Kid
1. Kolchak: the Night Stalker -- I was only five when the series was on, but I watched it every week with my mom.
2. The Muppet Show
3. Battlestar Galactica -- the original. Yes, I was hooked as a kid... but I was the demographic they were aiming at.
4. Scarecrow & Mrs. King
5. Doctor Who
Who Would You Do?: 5 TV Characters You Would...Well, It's Self-Explanatory
1. Fox Mulder (X-Files)
2. Spike, with a chip or a soul (BtVS)
3. Turlough (Doctor Who)
4. Wesley Wyndam-Pryce (Angel)
5. Jack Harkness (Doctor Who)
What? No, No, I Don't Watch That...: 5 Guilty Pleasure TV Shows
Maybe it's because I'm sick, but I can't think of anything I would described as a guilty pleasure. I've always been pretty up front about the shows I like.
Wow: 5 TV Moments You Still Remember (And Probably Won't Forget)
1. The scene in "Fool for Love" where it flashed between current day in the alley and '70s Punk Spike fighting Nikki in the subway. Wow. (BtVS)
2. Adric dying in "Earthshock" (Doctor Who) -- because it was such a shock, having one of the regulars die.
3. Sheridan jumping off the ledge to escape Anna and the Shadows (Babylon 5) -- I love the whole setup: the ultimate temptation in front of him, what appears to be certain death behind him, and yet... he takes the latter choice.
4. When Turlough has to finally make a choice about surrendering the Doctor to the Black Guardian and gaining everything he thought he ever wanted, or saving the Doctor and giving up everything. -- Yeah, it's old school Doctor Who and suffers from some of the standard problems, but that scene always gets to me (as does the whole episode).
5. Buffy kissing Spike at the end of "Intervention" (BtVS) -- Out on BAPS someone actually uploaded a bit of the script with that entire scene before the episode ever aired... and none of us believed it.
Runner-up: Practically every flashback scene in "Fool for Love" (BtVS) -- starting with our very first glimpse at human William... when suddenly, all the assumptions we had made about Spike were shattered, but so much of his personality made even more sense.
"Tossed Salads and Scrambled Eggs": 5 TV Theme Songs You Know (and Love) By Heart
1. The Muppet Show
2. Animaniacs
3. Coupling (the UK version)
4. The Tick (animated series)
5. The Electric Company
Eh: 5 Shows You Just Can't Get Into
1. Supernatural -- I'm currently giving it another try... I have the DVDs borrowed from
dcfiregirl
2. Stargate
3. Stargate Atlantis
4. American Idol
5. Battlestar Galactica -- the new one, although I'm probably going to try it again soon.
The Starting Line-Up: 5 Channels You Go To First When You Sit Down to Watch TV
1. HGTV
2. Food Network
3. BBCAmerica
4. Discovery
5. SciFi
This Is An Environment of Welcoming, and You Should Just Get the Hell Out Of Here: 5 TV Characters You Could Do Without
1. Perpugilliam Brown aka Peri (Doctor Who) -- Nails on a chalkboard. Seriously.
2. Owen Harper (Torchwood) -- he's someone I could almost like, if the writers ever gave him any redeeming qualities. Unfortunately, they haven't bothered.
Other than that, I can't think of any characters that had no appeal for me whatsoever. There are characters I came to dislike and others that I started out not liking but began to appreciate, but none that I simply wished would go away.
That's What She Said: 5 Quotes That Still Resonate
Wow. My brain is now absolutely flooded with BtVS quotes... because so much of that show was quotable. I use quotes from BtVS in my daily life, sometimes without even realizing it, and they've even infected friends of mine who have never watched the show. But at the moment, they're also sort of drowning out anything else.
I can't narrow this one down. Maybe I'll come back in a few days when I no longer have a head stuffed full of, um, cotton (obviously, it's stuffed full of something much more icky, but I'm trying to avoid inflicting the imagery on anyone) and give it another go.
Gimme More: 5 Shows You Can Never Get Enough Of
1. Buffy the Vampire Slayer
2. Angel
3. Doctor Who
4. The X-Files
5. Newsradio
