Thank you all so much for your well-wishes! They're greatly appreciated! It's a bit weird, though: because my aunt didn't bother to tell any of us what sort of surgery she was having, none of us have been dealing with any of the stress or worry until today, so it feels a bit unreal.

I just got off the phone with my mom, who had barely crossed into Idaho from Oregon (on her way down to be with my aunt in Utah), and she said my aunt is doing really well now and looks to be on track for recovery, although they're going to be keeping her in the hospital a bit longer than originally planned. My mom and step-dad are pretty convinced that the diagnosis of "bone hemostasis" from the surgeon (and thank you, [livejournal.com profile] sith_bitch, for getting me the correct term!) may have been more of a CYA thing for having accidentally left a bleeder. My aunt has had other surgery on her bones before and never had a problem with it... so unless it's the sort of thing that only happens in isolated instances, then that can't be the cause. I don't know... but I guess it'll all be figured out in the end.

I still don't know if I'll be heading down that way or not... though the earliest it's likely to happen is Sunday. There's just no way I can cut out before then, and I'm not sure how we'll deal with rearranging some of the appointments we have scheduled for next week, either. Why can't emergencies happen more convenient times? :-p

I'm glad she's doing better. That was some weird timing.

Glad to hear things are better than expected. My grandmother used to do the same thing ("Oh didn't I tell you I had pneumonia and was in the infirmary for six weeks last spring?")

Hope every thing continues to go well.

Wow, I just read your earlier entry. My husband's family is like that -- we find out the health sitch after the fact because they don't want us to worry. Great for us, but we're not there to support them.

I hope her recovery goes smoothly from now on. Scary what happened in recovery with the hematoma! Sheesh!

Glad to hear she's doing better. Complications stink.

I'm reading through the Flist backward, so this is the first I've heard - good to know she's on the mend!

My mom did this to me a few years ago - we're talking on the phone and she says, "I'm recovering well after my surgery," and I reply, "What was wrong?" to which she says, "Oh, I had cancer." !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gee, thanks, Mom...
