First off... still sick. And getting really sick of being sick. Blech.

I'm guessing it's a good thing the tentative plans with [livejournal.com profile] corellian_sugar to go down to Pasadena to help out with the Star Wars floats never actually came to anything... although I don't know if she went ahead and drove down on her own (I kind of hope she did, because I suspect it would have been a lot of fun). This also means that [livejournal.com profile] rackham and I ended up completely missing the Star Wars exhibit at the OMSI in Portland, though. We may have to try seeing it in LA later in the year.

As for Torchwood... some quick thoughts:
"Captain Jack Harkness" -- I loved it, despite some of the anachronisms in the plot. I will say that while I don't hate Owen and I even like some of the story and relationship dynamics surrounding him, the character does have a bit of a tendency to annoy me... and taking an occasionally annoying character and making him act insane and manic? Yeah, teeth grinding time.

"End of Days" -- Also loved this one, again despite its flaws. I mean, really... it was a bit like watching Hellmouth in Cardiff. Actually, I had a brief flashback to playing the old Doctor Who Role-Playing Game back in High School... with friends who were more comfortable playing D&D (it led to some really surreal adventures that were absolutely nothing like Doctor Who).

Eve Myles absolutely blew me away in her scenes with Dead!Rhys, although I also quite liked Gwen being called on her love of him. I'm hoping this is her wake-up call to either get her relationship with him straightened out (I haven't commented on some of the earlier episodes yet, but the one where she spilled all to him and then drugged him? Chilling) or to let him go.

For that matter, John Barrowman really made me feel those scenes as well. In fact, the acting is what saved this episode... because quite a bit of it seriously stretched the willful suspension of disbelief.

I was pretty much expecting the TARDIS to show up in some fashion at the end, simply because I knew JB was going to be on Doctor Who next season... but it still got to me when it happened. I can't wait to see him with the new Doctor!

I'll probably have more to say later when my head finally clears up. I still need to watch the Sarah Jane Adventures, but that will probably happen tomorrow.
