And I'm not kidding about the roar thing... I woke up about 12:40 (I think I'd been asleep for maybe half an hour) because, in our attempt to be clever, we'd hooked up one of the older UPS systems to the hub and wireless broadcaster in the hall closet... and it was going BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP about every thirty seconds until I shut it off. It certainly doesn't help that the wind outside is LOUD... it reminds me a great deal of typhoon weather. Considering we're expecting wind gusts up to 70mph, that's not too far off.

Looking out of our kitchen window, we can see no lights anywhere, so I'm guessing the power is out in a pretty wide range (we look out over quite a bit of the neighborhood, through the trees). I did see what appeared to be a spotlight from a police car just a bit ago, so I'm guessing they're very busy tonight. I'm not expecting to have power back on again anytime soon, since I suspect there wouldn't be much point in the power company scrambling to fix things right now.

I'm not liking some of the cracking sounds I'm hearing out there. I love living in this area and I love all the wonderful tall trees... except tonight, when any one of them could easily come crashing down on the house. We've been hearing what we're guessing are smaller branches hitting the roof all night. It's very nervous-making.

At least I have my laptop and my backup dialup access for the time being... although I'm not currently getting any mail (since our mail servers are in our basement and have been without electricity long enough that the UPS systems have shut them down), I can at least check here from time to time.

Well, normally the weather here is incredibly mild and monotonous! Which is why everybody freaks out when we get something extreme like this. For me, it mostly brings back childhood memories!

The weather here's been pretty much the same - cool nights (cold by our standards!) and very mild days.

Haven't had an extreme bit of weather in some while!
