Technically, if I really wanted to leave, I'm pretty sure it could be arranged. But I want to disrupt the nice utility workers as little as possible so they'll be done as quickly as possible. OTOH, I really messed up on scheduling my morning, mostly because I failed to connect the dots the way I should have.

About 8:30 this morning, they dragged out the jackhammers and started breaking through the concrete in the middle of the cul-de-sac (as Rackham pointed out, it's not just a hole... it's big enough to hide a body), to fix the leak we discovered on Tuesday. Rackham hurried to take a shower, since we were pretty sure they'd have to shut off the water at some point. I filled a couple of pitchers with water... a gallon size with tap-water for potential short term handwashing and a smaller one with filtered water for drinking.

I decided to hold off on taking a shower, since I was really hoping to go out to the YMCA to work out today (the route having been nearly impassable for the past two days), and headed off to my piano lesson. I should point out that at that time, there was just the one utility truck in the cul-de-sac. Big, yes, but not really blocking anything. After my piano lesson, there were three more trucks doing a whole lot of blocking (and there's a backhoe around the corner that I suspect will get dragged into the mix later). They were really nice about backing things up and moving things around to let me into my driveway... they then informed me that the water was shut off and would remain off for about two more hours, but that if we needed some water, they'd have some delivered (seriously, these guys are being really nice about the whole situation).

However, this leaves me with a bit of a problem. I haven't showered, we have no water, and I really don't want to make them move the trucks again, especially not so soon after they did it for me to get home. I should have just parked my car up at the end of the road and walked down, even with the ice covered street. Ugh. I think I may wait another hour and see if I can get out then... If I can get up to the YMCA, I can always shower there.

In the meantime, it's now Noon and the day feels completely stalled out.

Ugh. Hope they've finally sorted out the mess with the water pipe.

I'm assuming they're going to be back, since it looks like they just put on a temporary asphalt patch (and just backed over it with a truck a few times to tamp it down). There's also still a leak, although it's coming out of a different place now... and last week they were out with another machine, cutting what I'm guessing is the outline for some larger holes in the asphalt.
