Happy Tuesday!

I headed over to the local elementary school around lunchtime to do the voting thing... we had a bit of a change this time, in that we were given a choice to either vote with the good old-fashioned paper ballot or try the newfangled electronic voting machine. I glanced over at the lone, neglected electronic voting machine shoved off in the corner and went with old reliable (along with, I'm guessing, everyone else). Then it was over to my second favorite thing about voting, and one of the reasons I hope we never go to all-mail ballots: the bake sale. It's the perfect combination... do your civic duty and vote, support the school AND get baked goods!
On the way to vote, I spotted the kindly old kook down the road with the shipbuilding hobby taking another delivery of pairs of zoo animals... Okay, not really, and it finally seems to have stopped pouring down rain, though it's still so overcast I'm not sure how long the reprieve will last. I've said it before... but this sort of rain is not very common around here. Sure the Seattle area is known for its rain, but that's *drizzle* rain, not downpour rain. The rivers are bulging everywhere and even little Juanita Creek up the road is hugely swollen (I suspect that if they hadn't replaced the drainage line a few years back, we'd have water overflowing and sheeting over the road by now). The town of Carnation to the north of us is essentially an island, completely cut off from everything (and I believe they've also had both power and telephone outages) and my friend M who lives just outside Duvall is effectively cut off, as well, with all the major roads flooded. She was expecting to lose power and/or phone sometime today. I'm hoping
lissybear is doing okay, since I hear the flooding is quite bad down in her area.
It's been interesting listening to all the coverage, because the two big news items are definitely impacting one another... there are a few polling places that are closed due to flooding and a few people who can't reach their polling places for the same reason. They've actually handled it in a fairly sane way, which is to put out the word that if you can't get to your normal polling place, you can go to any of them and cast a provisional ballot there.
And, best of all, we've had a grand total of ONE political phone call today. And I expect tomorrow we'll have none. There are no words to adequately express my happiness.

Date: 2006-11-08 01:30 am (UTC)As for Heroes, if I get a chance tonight I'm going to be writing up some thoughts on that plus a few other shows and a book I read last week. I just never seem to have the time to spend on everything I want to do! :-p
