You know, having a helicopter circling *something* about a mile from your house at 1:30 in the morning isn't really very helpful when you're trying to get to sleep!

I have no idea what's going on... it appears to be circling something right around the Safeway just down the road. No spotlight or anything, just circling for about the past half hour (and it's now 1:50am). Not really anywhere near tree level, but low enough to be fairly loud even though it's about half a mile away at the closest in its circle and our windows are closed.

There has to be a really good reason for it, since this entire area is residential and I can't imagine anyone being able to get away with this just for kicks and giggles.

It's times like this that make me wish I had a police scanner. Or some earplugs.

No spotlight? Unlikely they were looking for a suspect then. When we had the serial killer thing in Baltimore in early 2000, the choppers were circling every night with a spotlight. H used to be coming back from work around 11:00 pm and unfortunately, he got quite used to the spotlight and the feeling that someone was also tracking him with infra-red as he crossed from the road up to our building.

[livejournal.com profile] rackham pointed out that they might have been using infrared... but I don't know. We had a helicopter do the circling thing pretty much right over our house about six months ago, and they definitely were using a spotlight then (and I went around making sure our windows and doors were shut and locked). This is actually a really good neighborhood, so it surprises me a little that we've had two such incidents in a year... but you just never know.

I'm going to ask a friend of mine about it at church today. Her husband is a retired Deputy and may have some clue about what was going on.

You might also want to check the Police Blotter section of the King County Journal. Nothing about it today, but there might be something more later in the week.

Or a missile launcher? ;) ok, that a little extreme, how about a helicopter noise hotline...

DO let me know if you find out anything more. It's going to continue to bug me (especially since it was so uncomfortably close to our house).

Heard about that ...

Lula told me that the Woodinville police had a suspect escape from the back of their car. Evidently she has a friend who was dropping another friend off in that area and the police told that young man to lock all his doors and windows. The odd thing about it is that it was Woodinville police. Typically, King County services our area - so - I'm wondering if it was just an unfortunate byproduct versus a problem in our area.

You know I have a few youth hooligans in that subdivision behind my property. I still think we live in a good area though.
