Nothing big, or even really necessary.

I met my husband for lunch this afternoon and we headed over to the AAA office in Bellevue to pick up International Driving Permits. From what I understand, we don't need them to drive in Australia, but it was recommended we get them anyway. They weren't tough or expensive, so we figured "what the heck!"

Oh, and Bonus!! They had a very nice Travel Store where we were able to buy a Universal Grounded Adaptor Plug. All of our electronica is rated for the electricity load in Australia, so we figured the best way to go about it would be to get the adapter and a power bar that's also rated for it and just hook everything on that when we want to recharge. I mean, heaven forbid we go anywhere we can't run our laptops, PDAs, and MP3 player! (And people wonder why I no longer go camping!)

You crack me up. You're worried about your laptop; my obsesion is always a hair dryer and an iron.

Okay, one thing, Fen...

Be prepared: Australians drive like maniacs, and they're very often under the influence. Not a value judgement here -- I love Australians and their beautiful squiffy faces. :) But coupled with wrong side of the road driving and well, just be careful.

Of course, Aussies are better drivers than Kiwis (who are the scariest drivers in the world, and that's that I'm counting Europe and certain third world countries), but if you're not going to NZ this obviously doesn't apply. But you should go to NZ.

In defence of Australians...

Australian drivers have nothing on European drivers. Especially Italian drivers. But I digress.

And we don't drive on the wrong side of the road - you guys do. We're the logical ones.

And the only time you really have to watch out for drunk drivers is Friday or Saturday night, plus early Sunday morning. Of course, it pays to be careful anyway.

Steph, Australian driver :-)

You're going to Australia!? I'm so jealous. Will you pack me in your suitcase? I promise not to eat much.
