Last night's Heroes wasn't just good, it also managed something I haven't experienced in a television show in a long time... it surprised me. (I think the last time that happened may have been the Buffy/Spike sex scene in "Smashed.")
Wow. I was just stunned by the wonderful twist with Hiro! I had no idea they were going to go that route... I think I may need to watch again to see if there were any clues along the way that might not have been noticeable the first time through. I'm just delighted to find a show that managed to catch me so off-guard though! Hiro's still so adorable!!
The thing with Peter surprised me a bit too... though I'd been hoping he'd have some sort of ability, as well. I just loved the way it was presented! I'd just started thinking "exactly how far forward has he walked?" when it became obvious that was the point. Yay! I have to wonder, a bit, whether he's got a bit of precognition too... since we've had two examples of it so far, with the dreams and with the doodle. Hmmm.
So, are we supposed to be suspicious of Mohinder's next door neighbor? Or is the actress just not very good? I did notice that she never told him her name, which seemed weird (especially since he'd just offered his). And he seemed awfully trusting of her... but maybe we're supposed to buy it as "television shorthand" -- they don't want to spend a lot of screentime building up his trust in her. And why in the world is Mohinder still staying in his father's old apartment? He knows people are after him, he knows someone killed his father and yet he's sitting around in a blatantly obvious place with all of the information and papers he's trying to keep from the bad guys just like a big fat target. Oh well, he's still the hottest guy on the show!
Doppelganger Girl Niki really freaks me out (which I'm sure is the point) but is beginning to grow on me. So cool how the scene in her car was staged... going from holding the camera to holding the phone, wearing different clothes. And whoa to the bodies... evidently this sort of thing has been going on a lot longer than she thought! I wonder how they're going to get her together with everyone else, or whether she's going to end up being a bad guy.
Creepy!Glasses!Guy continues to be creepy and continues to wear glasses. So, what do you think the chances are that Claire's real parents met with a not-so-fun end? He obviously already knew she had the potential to be special. Plus, he's just, well, creepy.
Cop!Guy is sooooo cute!!! But then, I've always thought Greg Grunberg was attractive. When I mentioned this to
taradaktyl on one of our morning walks last week, after asking me who he was on Alias, she said "Oh! He's the guy who looks a bit like
rackham!" Well, um, yeah... now that you mention it...
My big theory about Silar: I think his ability is to eat the brains of those who have powers... and absorb the powers. It would explain why he was able to freeze the one guy and apparently use telekinesis to hold the wife on the wall and skewer her with flatware. And, of course, it would explain the missing brains.
I'm now paranoid that the show will be canceled before the end of the year. I mean, it's a really good genre show on a big network... that's like the kiss of death. I also just realized that I won't get to watch the next two episodes until after we get back from England... hopefully it won't be too tough to resist reading comments about them on LJ!

Date: 2006-10-03 09:57 pm (UTC)I notice that there's a lot of precognition going around. The apocalyptic ending Hiro foresaw reminded me quite a bit of Johnny Smith's visions.
I love the cop, and Niki's mirror-image is sufficiently creepy to grab my interest.
I think everyone is suspicious of Mohinder's neighbor. Especially since Mohinder rather naively just accepted that she was his father's friend.
The reason I'm afraid to get too involved in this series is the very reason you mentioned. Fool me once, Networks, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

Date: 2006-10-04 12:39 am (UTC)My theory on Claire is that she doesn't have birth parents. I think Creepy!Glasses!Guy was somehow involved in her "creation," and that he'll just keep putting off her "Who am I" questions until she's helped fulfill his evil schemes.

Date: 2006-10-04 02:32 pm (UTC)Turns out that one of our friends is on the show! SQUEE!
She'll loan me the taped episodes so that I can catch up, and we called Tadao and got to harass him about not letting us know. (he was the Japanese translator)
