Thoughts on "Heroes"
Sep. 26th, 2006 04:15 pmSo, is anyone else watching this show?
As I mentioned earlier, I liked it! I loved some of the subtleties to it... how it became slowly obvious that something was connecting the group beyond their abilities (the little stuff to start, moving on to bigger and bigger things). Mostly, it seems to point to writers who are watching the story details, which certainly can't hurt.
Some things, though, were maybe a little too easy to guess. I wasn't at all surprised that Claire's father was Creepy!Guy!with!Glasses. I was expecting the politician brother to be the one who flew... though I'm rather disappointed on behalf of his brother. The ending was also not terribly surprising, in that I thought it was pretty obvious we'd get something major and horrible from Painter!Guy... but it was still a pretty effective scene.
Nurse Guy was the second most sympathetic character for me... although some of the emotional scenes, even for him, just didn't move me at all. In fact, the character I most connected with would probably be Hiro... He's just such a likable guy, plus he's a bit of a geek, so he's easier to identify with (the funky thing for me is that I went through a period when I was really young (around six or seven years old) where I was really worried that I'd suddenly figure out how to teleport while I was taking a shower or, worse, while I was thinking about what it would be like to be on the Moon or Mars).
So far, Dr. Suresh (Sendhil Ramamurthy) wins my vote for Hottest Guy on the show (even if I found some of the lecturing to be a bit tedious), but I can't wait to see Greg Grunberg and Leonard Roberts on the show... hopefully next week!
I really hope they've got a storyline plotted out for this. It looks like they do... but then "Lost" looked really promising for that in the beginning, too. I've gotten so spoiled for shows that at least have an idea of where they're going in the end, even if they don't know all the particulars. It makes it a bit tough to get involved with old-style episodic television.

Date: 2006-09-27 12:14 am (UTC)I hope they have it plotted out as well. I already saw the ominous painting on at Scifi.com so it wasn't a surprise. They have to have some sort of universal goal.
Creepy guy dad actually did surprise me, but if there doing a "connections" thing like lost then I should probably expect such things. I'm a little concerned that they may fall into the "Lost" trap where the plot evolves but doesn't advance.
I'll keep watching.
