Things guaranteed to make you worry...

For about the last twenty minutes, there's been a helicopter buzzing the house. Oh, not really... but it sure does sound like it. Every few minutes, low overhead, the beat of the rotors reverberating through the walls. After about ten minutes (a few minutes of helicopter noise is not unusual here... we're not far from a major hospital, so we often get LifeFlight helicopters zipping over the house), I finally went out on the back deck to see what in the world was going on. taradaktyl's kids are over visiting our Xbox360, and they followed me out as well (did I mention the helicopter is LOUD).

And there it came, in a tight circle, flying VERY low, with the Sheriff's Department logo on the side.

Um....

We watched it circle again, then went inside and shut and locked all the doors. I have no idea why a Sheriff's helicopter would be circling the park next to us, but it's enough to get me more than a little nervous. Gonna have to watch the news this evening, to see if they mention what's up.

Eep! Does the park have woods? It sounds like you did the right thing. Now you must fill us in because we're all wondering. :-)

That's pretty much all the park is... it's greenspace, mostly just wild forest with a few "improved" gathering areas and a whole lot of hiking paths. I'm really hoping they have something on the news about it. If not, I may have to pester my friend who works in a local police department to see if she can find out anything.

You oughtta hear the Ft Knox copters as they do low passes. I always have this irrational fear it will be a cargo copter and drop the load on the house, or an attack one and whoops about the missile...

Eep! Reminds me of the time we had the murderer roaming around our part of Baltimore. Somehow, he got from one side of our estate to the other. Police helicopters with infra-red at 11 o'clock at night!

Hmm. The only time I recall a helicopter continually circling it turned out to be a police manhunt. And since I was a reporter, I grabbed my notepad and camera and headed in, and actually got a good picture of the helicopter when it landed in the middle of a condominium complex's parking lot. And later felt quite queasy about all the deserted alleyways I headed down that afternoon when I found out the suspect was wanted for rape.

In conclusion, stay inside with your doors locked.

Gee, whiz, that happens so often in our part of Phoenix I hardly notice it anymore, unless they buzz right over the house.

(We have a serial sniper AND a serial rapist on the loose in our area. Whee! The joys of living in a major metropolis...)
