We've been having a field day today, posting things on our local Freecycle group, in the hopes of having people come over to haul them away (seems to be working so far, since I think we have e-mail commitments for pretty much everything). So, we began delving deeper and deeper into the garage for more stuff we obviously didn't need anymore... and stumbled across a box of old TV Guides. Not sure how they ended up in a box in the garage, since quite a few of them have address labels for our previous residence, but they've been fun to look through.

It was while thumbing through them that I found this little tidbit:
"Without a doubt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, better known as the title character of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, is on a roll. First she slays the critics with her WB series. Then she lands a costarring role in "I Know What You Did Last Summer," which made her America's No. 1 box-office queen for three weeks in a row. Now it's the hot feature "Scream 2," which ratcheted up the career of Party of Five's Neve Campbell and Friends' Courtney Cox and is doing the same for Gellar. No wonder, then, that the Buffster is talking about making the move to movies. Maybe griping is a better word. Pals at the Beverly Hills cigar bar Havana Room overheard her complaining about her grinding TV schedule, which pays her peanuts compared with what she could be drawing for features. Get ready to say "see ya" to Gellar, who will become the latest in a long line of TV stars to forget that they owe it all to the small screen. We have two words of warning for Gellar: David Caruso."

Huh, says I... since I thought it a bit strange to find a newer TV Guide mixed in with the oldies. Except, no... the next page has the Cheers and Jeers, which mentions how much they loved seeing John Ritter in a guest role on BtVS. I check the date. Yep, it's from the last week in 1997. Halfway through Season Two. Just thought it was interesting that SMG had apparently been seriously considering moving on so early in the show...

*tosses another TV Guide in the Recycle pile...*

ETA: I just found this little blurb from a few weeks after the last one:

Buffy's Buddy
Asked to describe his character, Buffy the Vampire Slayer's pal Xander, Nicholas Brendon, cracks wise: "Awkwardly geeky. Is ugly, so he has to use a sense of humor." After getting fired as a production assistant on Dave's World ("I was just too damn attractive; they were threatened by me"), the 26-year-old actor has quickly made his mark on Buffy, which moves from MOndays to Tuesdays with this week's two-part episode. But will Xander and Buffy ever be more than just pals? "things are changing," Brendon hints. "We'll see what happens in terms of relationships." For now, he's enjoying Xander's flirtation with catty Cordelia (Charisma Carpenter). Unlike his character, he says, "I just don't have a crush on Sarah Michelle Gellar."

Me again:
Heh. And I bet next year will *finally* be the Year of Xander!

HAHAHAHAHA!!!! *cough*KB*cough*

It really must be hard for tv actors, though. I sort of don't blame them.

SMG probably got a raise a few days after that TVG hit the stands, and was suddenly less unhappy. :)

So I guess it is the two-year mark that sets these girls to whining (or giving robotic, phoned-in performances that are the psychic equivalent of whining). Ingrates.

My only consolation will be to watch them become the standard Hollywood female castoffs. Remember, girls, this year's Mischa Barton is the next decade's Annette O'Toole.

Haven't they already replaced Mischa?

*sigh*

Thanks for the transportation back in time, though. It was, for a few shining seconds, as though Buffy were still on TV. I still miss it lots.
