Soggy Thursday

Here we are in our 25th straight day of rain. I know it sounds weird that it'd be such an unusual thing here in the Seattle area, but what most people don't know is that what we usually get during the winter are a lot of overcast skies and a sort of constant misty moistness, with occasional bouts of real rain. So, yeah, this is different. But, hey, the cloudy skies and the near constant drizzle are some of the things I love about this area... so even a bit of extra rain isn't going to get to me (except for a matter I'll talk about further down).

I had my first Physical Therapy appointment today and it went really well... I was quite pleased with the PTs at the clinic and the treatment they have mapped out for me (which is going to be very light to begin with, just working a tiny bit on range of motion in my arm, without jarring the part of the shoulder that's still healing). Definitely going to need to select a good paperback to read during treatment... I'm still having trouble holding hardbacks.

I gave my mom a call when I got home to tell her how things had gone, and happened to pace over by the sliding glass doors in the dining room... and came to the startling realization that there was a HUGE gap in the flora just off our deck. One of our beautiful trees apparently succumbed to the combination of rain-drenched ground and high winds we've had recently. We have no clue when it happened (we've both been too busy working on accident recovery to pay enough attention) but I suspect it was sometime earlier this week.

Here's a shot looking down from the deck -- the tree is actually quite far down and therefore much bigger than it appears. The branches used to hang over the deck railing... a favorite perch for the Chickadee Gang when they were waiting for me to fill the bird feeder.

And here's a shot from ground level, though the tree is still quite a ways down from where I was standing.

Really, I'm just glad it fell the direction it did or it certainly would have wiped out the back deck, if not part of the house. If the top hadn't gotten caught on those trees further down it would have taken out the fence... as it is, we're going to need to find some way of dealing with it before we get any wind that might push it to fall further.

It also opens up a huge gap in our surrounding trees, meaning there's a much clearer view of our house from the trail (aka old road closed to traffic) in the park behind us. I'm guessing we'll be looking into planting something there in the spring. Sheesh, if it's not one thing, it's another...

I like rain in moderation. This is not moderation. Actually... I don't really mind the rain as long as I'm not working in it or trying to drive in it at night with people who do not know how to drive in the rain. But seeing as how I work 5 days a week in it, I do not like it too much at the moment. :-D But yeah...

Huh. It hasn't rained in Central Florida, in like....weeks. Hope the sun comes out for you soon!

Oh, it's so frustrating when trees go down. Especially when you don't know when it happened!

Hope the rain stops, soon.

I'm glad that the first experience with PT went well.

As for the tree, if it had to go down, it's good that it didn't cause any great damage. Of course, it does give you something else to put on your to do list.

Glad the physio looks promising, shame the tree doesn't!

Aww, poor you with the tree! I'm glad the PT is going well; I'm sure it's going to be a frustratingly slow affair, but you are getting better so that's what counts!

Twenty-five days of rain, huh? So you've got what, fifteen days to build that ark? ;)

It's been super windy over on the other side of the mountains too. But less with the real rain. It sprinkles on us from time to time, but mostly it just gusts around the house as if it's trying to be an English Moor or something...

Glad it fell the right way. (i.e., not into your house!)

I was gonna say that! :D
