Expanding collection

I just opened the front door to see that my latest order from Sideshow Collectibles had arrived... Squee!!! I've now added a Der Kinderstod doll to my burgeoning collection. (Shut up. It's a kind of geek thing. Really. And [livejournal.com profile] nmissi, you can stop laughing now.) He's creepy and ooky and everything I was hoping for! Complete with eye-stalk accessories!

If you haven't been following the BtVS collection, there have been some fantastic dolls along the way and, even better, they all generally come with some incredibly cool accessories. (There goes Nmissi again, cackling evilly.) I'm really hoping, what with the recent announcement of the Liam doll, that it might signal the eventual release of a William doll. I rather desperately want one of those... with his curly hair and vest and slightly puffy shirtsleeves... Mmmm...

*momentarily drifts off into happy place*

In the meantime, once the Liam doll arrives, I can content myself with stripping him of his clothes and putting them on Spike... you know, if I ever get up the guts to actually open the stupid boxes (my inner child needs to give my inner collector a good smackdown one of these days).

Back to today's package -- here's the good part... tucked in the shipping box was a note which read, in part, "Thank you for your recent purchase with us. Sideshow Collectibles values your patronage and to express our gratitude we have enclosed a free gift with your order." They then go on to explain that it really was free and they even paid any extra postage. The thing is... the free gift? With which they are wanting to express their gratitude? It's a Polystone Bust of C. Montgomery Burns from "The Simpsons."

Um...

You know, I think in some cultures that sort of thing is considered a type of threat... rather like a dead fish in your mailbox or a horse's head in your bed.

I just looked them up on eBay, and these suckers aren't even selling for 1/3rd the list price. Ah, well... I guess I'll stick it in the Gift Drawer for the next time I need a White Elephant gift or something.

Those are really well-done dolls.

I have a friend who went to a con and picked up a Wolfram and Hart legal pad. I'm in lust with this concept. Do you have any idea of the maker?

[identity profile] fenchurche.livejournal.com 2005-06-11 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
Nope, I'm afraid I haven't run across those anywhere. Cool idea, though!

Your doll collection is becoming the envy of MY doll collection... however did that happen? ;)

Very very nifty, hon.

Heh! I have no idea... I just turned around one day, and there they all were, lined up on the bookshelf. I really will be taking them out of their boxes, eventually. Put them on display, properly.

Liam's wearing The Puffy Shirt!

::giggles::

I've now added a Der Kinderstod doll to my burgeoning collection.

Removable eye-stalks! I can't decide if that's really cool or really creepy...

Cool!

;-)

Obviously they can't unload those Burns busts fast enough! :-) Lucky you!

And yes. My house is a garlic-free zone for the summer. Makes for creative cooking...

[identity profile] fenchurche.livejournal.com 2005-06-11 08:35 am (UTC)(link)
I'll have to keep that in mind, then, if we bring any dishes over or finally get around to having you guys over here!

What are you doing up so late, btw? And we *really* need to find some sort of way around your IM problem... because it's more than a little annoying. :-)

[identity profile] taradaktyl.livejournal.com 2005-06-11 08:49 am (UTC)(link)
No kidding!! Let me know if between the two of you, you have any ideas! Major drag.

If you read my blog - it's sleepover party night. The girls have finally gone to bed - and I'm just finishing up after not really being on for a couple of days. (Pictures of her party are posted as well).

[identity profile] fenchurche.livejournal.com 2005-06-11 09:04 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, duh! I knew that, too!

I'll have to go take a peek at your blog... find out how you survived the first major slumber party.

I am soooo hoping that if Hasbro does end the SW 12" line that Sideshow will get a license. Because obviously they know how to do it right.

My Der Kinderstod came with a Bart Simpson bust. Hmm.

I think Mr. Burns is more appropriate, actually, in a "Separated at Birth?" sort of way.

[identity profile] fenchurche.livejournal.com 2005-06-14 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
Nope, it came with a Mr. Burns bust, but you're right!! I hadn't thought of it that way... but now that you mention it, there is a remarkable resemblance. Hmmm...

[identity profile] rusty_halo.livejournal.com 2005-06-11 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
But... Mr. Burns kicks ass. I don't understand your lack of enthusiasm! He's my favorite Simpsons character, and that bust is way cool. Seriously. :P

[identity profile] fenchurche.livejournal.com 2005-06-14 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
Heh! It's the "bust" aspect of it that leaves my enthusiasm lacking... if it were a doll or action figure, I'd be very happy. But a bust? Not really sure what to do with that!

[identity profile] rusty_halo.livejournal.com 2005-06-14 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Pretend it's an expensive bust of a distinguished family member, and place it in a position of prominence within your home?

;)

[identity profile] wildrider.livejournal.com 2005-06-12 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm a bit Mr. Burns fan, myself. I have a couple of Mr. Burns, um, "action figures" about. (Although the cats stole the fishbowl containing Blinky, the three-eyed fish. Never have found it.) :)

ANYWAY, that is one cool doll. I've been hinting that someone around this house who shall remain nameless get me the Liam doll, since I got her the last two Spike dolls... :)

[identity profile] fenchurche.livejournal.com 2005-06-14 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
I'd actually like a Mr. Burns doll... but the Mr. Burns bust is just a little freaky. :-p

[identity profile] wildrider.livejournal.com 2005-06-14 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
I suppose I can see that... ;) (BTW, that was either supposed to be "a bit of a Mr. Burns fan" or, more likely, "a big Mr. Burns fan."

Excellent.
