Struggling to stay awake

Last night I drifted off a little bit after midnight and woke suddenly a little bit after 3:00am. As in wide awake. Spent the next hour and a half trying to get back to sleep and mostly staring at the ceiling in boredom, until I realized I was being stupid, got out of bed, and did some housework. I did manage a 45 minute nap this afternoon, but resisted the urge to make it longer... and now I'm struggling to keep my eyes open and it's only 9:30. I know, though, that if I go to bed now, I'll be waking up at 3:00am again, and that would definitely suck.

In other news, HGTV is my new favorite channel... which just so happens to run my new favorite television show, "Mission: Organization." I swear I've been in "purge" mode for the past year already, and it doesn't seem to be stopping. In fact, I'll put HGTV on while cleaning or going through boxes and watch either "M:O" or "Designed to Sell" and get myself in a nice cleaning and organizing feedback loop. By the time I'm done, we may even wind up with some extra space in the house!

Freecycle is still the coolest thing ever... in the past few days I've gotten rid of an old wall-mount TV bracket and our old Litter-Maid self-cleaning litterbox, both of which had been taking space in the garage for over a year.

Hopefully, tomorrow's LJ update will be more interesting... and I definitely want to chime in on Fanfic Appreciation Week, but I figure it's best to wait until my brain is awake.

And speaking of fanfic, Tuesday has officially become my favorite day of the week (hmmm... perhaps I should have titled this entry "A few of my favorite things." Except waking up at 3:00am doesn't really fit that theme). But a day when both [livejournal.com profile] enigmaticblues and [livejournal.com profile] eurydice72 regularly update their fic can't possibly be bad.

I love those shows. Have you seen "Clean Sweep" on TLC? That's a good one, too. I also love the Brit versions on BBC America. I have a thing for organization. ;-)

Also, you can't help but feel better about your own place when you see the shape some of these places are in. *g*

Oh yeah... in fact, I started out with the show on BBCAmerica and expanded from there. It's my new favorite television genre.

LOL! I'm so glad I'm not the only one who feels that way. It's one of the many up sides to watching these show... getting to say "well, my place may be a mess, but at least it's not like THAT."

Did the self-cleaning litterbox actually work? I've been curious about those for years (and since the arrival of Cat #3, really curious...).

Yeah, it worked really well for the first few months, and then the cats figured out how to gum up the works. They'd "go" up on the tines of the mechanism and, the next time it ran, it would get stuck on the way back, making it run over and over again. Near as I can tell, they thought it was funny. :-p

We've switched to a regular litterbox with those Tidy Cat sifting liners (http://www.tidycat.com/products_13_quick.aspx), and we clean it out every few days. They're easy to use and very effective, and cleaning it as often as we do now keeps the smell down pretty well.

Aha. Yeah, that was my worry. Cats are notorious for making a mess out of something previously considered unmessable. I'm using Tidy Cats "crystal blend," and it seems to be working well, but I absolutely HAVE to clean it every single day, or "the boys" get irritated with me and start using the floor (with handy litter scrapped out of the box). Even with two boxes (I clean the main one daily, the secondary every couple of days).

You gotta know I love 'em.
