Kitchen Remodel

We started our kitchen remodel today (okay, technically we started it a day or so ago with the mad frantic emptying of cupboards) and it's really humming along. Check out the webpage I set up for recording the progress, and marvel at the now obliterated Uber-Ugly 1970s Kitchen. I'm so glad that stuff's gone. Seriously, I think the demolished kitchen with no ceiling, cupboards, or countertops looks better than the old one.

The cats are a bit rattled by all the changes... though surprisingly, Cymry (the uptight one) is pretty much taking it in stride. It's Polly (the normally calm one) who is totally freaking. She disappeared around Noon today and finally wandered out from her hiding spot somewhere in the house at around 9:00. She just doesn't deal with either change or loud noises very well.

*sniff* I already miss all the Harvest Gold...

Not.

Can't wait to see how the new stuff will look.

Surprising how much better a nekkid empty kitchen looks than one mired in 1972. ;)

Can't wait to see the grand unveiling of your new kitchen!

Okay, I'm actively terrified at how much the "old" kitchen looks a lot like our current one... (shiver) except we pulled out the Harvest Gold floor a good while back, and had to replace the Harvest Gold fridge years ago (which meant we used appliance paint on the stove doors to match). But the countertops and cupboard fronts... my goodness. [livejournal.com profile] rahirah and I need to get the money to follow your lead, obviously.

God I love kitchen remodelling. Can't wait to follow the progress. You just can't seem to hide a 70's kitchen, once a 70's kitchen always a 70's kitchen, until you rip it out.

Man, that was like a trip back in time. Or into my kitchen. I have newer vinyl down on the floor, but almost the same fugly pressboard cupboards and yes, dear god, harvest gold appliances. I want to remodel my kitchen so much, but I can't seem to save any money and I refuse to finance it. But, oh man, I hate my kitchen. And my bathroom.

If ever a kitchen needed ripping out...am very curious now as to what the replacement will be like! Good luck with the whole process!

Harvest Gold, what memories (my parents' first house)! Thanks for the link to the pictures! Can't wait to see the new result.

You're right, that stainless steel sink did look nice. Who was the lucky recipient of that one? I know that's just the sort of thing we've been looking to find at the curb on our neighborhood walks. (No, really -- the upstairs is being remodeled and curb shopping is a favorite pastime anyway.)
