Today's photo - Tuning the Piano
Woohoo!! Two days in a row of posting the current daily photo! This shouldn't feel like as big an accomplishment as it does.
It's been several years since we last had our piano tuned and then, of course, we moved last year... which just threw it even more out of tune. Even worse, we had one note that would just never end... a note that gets played a LOT (I was starting to grind my teeth while playing, it was bugging me so badly). Thankfully, we know of an absolutely incredible piano technician who has tons of experience with antique pianos.
We had Omar recommended to us by a company that specialized in refurbishing and reselling antique pianos and he really is fantastic. At some point in the future, we may look at paying him to fully restore our piano, but for now it works just fine for what I need (because the strings are so old, he's tuning them to each other, but not tightening them down as much as they should be to be truly in tune... too much of a chance they might snap). I think I've posted about the piano before, but it's a 1909 upright grand that we got free off Freecycle about nine years ago (well, it cost us around $200 to have it moved) and the first time Omar tuned it for us, he kept repeating "You got a heckuva deal!"
I'm very happy to have it in tune again, but even happier that the lingering note problem was so easily fixed... apparently, a piece had fallen out of place when it was moved and he was able to find it down in the bowels of the piano and put it back. No more D note playing forever!
Here he is, getting set up to start his work.
