It's the Doof Show...
Jan. 14th, 2014 10:04 pm...starring him, he's Doof!
A few weeks ago we finally bought some stools so we could sit at the bar in the kitchen (although this evening was the first time we've eaten dinner there since we moved into the house... really liking that option!). Not long after we put the chairs in place, I noticed that Zoë had found a new obsession.
Last year, a friend gave us her fancy goldfish, complete with a tank! I can't remember what she was calling him at the time, but
rackham and I had recently discovered the show "Phineas and Ferb" and decided we just had to name him Doofenschmirtz (who happens to be my favorite character). Here at the new house, we have his tank (labeled Doofenshmirtz Evil Incorporated) sitting on the back corner of the kitchen counter... and it's been great, because we see him all the time and he seems to like seeing us (but who knows, I mean, he's a fish. They don't do much).
It turns out the stools create the perfect vantage point for Zoë to get her daily entertainment.

It's a bit tough to see, but Doofenshmirtz is actually right up by the glass on the side facing Zoë and is staring back at her. She's the only cat we've had who likes to watch television... back when we had a television set up between our two computer monitors, she would sit on a chair between us and watch TV for 15 to 20 minutes at a time (and not just shows with randomly moving objects... she seemed to really like the news). Near as we can tell, she thinks the tank is just another sort of screen. I've never actually seen her attempt to go after Doof or even touch the glass of the tank. She just sits there and watches him. And watches him. And even better, he watches her back.
