Bad news and fun observations
Jul. 3rd, 2013 03:08 pmSo. There's a very good chance we won't have internet, phone or television for another six weeks or so and yeah, I'm beyond unhappy about this. If I get a chance, I'll write up a post about it later, but at the moment, I'm still just a bit too upset about the whole thing to talk about it.
In happier news, I had one of those interesting moments yesterday that makes you wonder why you'd never noticed something (or thought of something) before. In the past, this has been stuff like realizing I tie my shoes left-handed (it was just a few years ago and I noticed it when
rackham and I were sitting next to each other putting on shoes) or, in another shoe related moment, when I was trying to learn to tie my shoes using the better method described in this TED talk out on Youtube and when Rackham gave it a try, he kept fumbling it... until he realized it was the way he'd always tied his shoes and thinking about it was just messing him up.
Anyway, I got my hair cut and colored yesterday (yay, new purple!!) and when she was done, my stylist was blowdrying it out straight... and asked "Where did your curly hair go?!" You see, when I started going to her, my hair was curly... it's always had a lot of natural wave and curl and I used to get it permed to sort of "pave over" it, since I didn't know how to style it. Then I sort of figured it out and went with it... and, in fact, started going to my stylist because she has a lot of experience with curly hair. It used to be that getting my hair straight involved special brushes, a lot of work in blowdrying and a straightening iron to finish it off. Now, it just falls straight on its own.
She then started to ask if I'd had any major changes in my diet, but stopped and asked "Wait, when did you stop eating stuff with cow's milk?" The answer: a bit over three years ago. Dawning realization and she says "Isn't that about the time your hair suddenly went straight?" And yeah, it was. So, apparently my curly hair came from cow's milk... or as a byproduct of my reaction to cow's milk. Now that it's been pointed out to me, I'm sort of amazed I hadn't made the connection, myself!
