New house!!
Jun. 23rd, 2013 08:53 pmSo, my internet access has been somewhat limited for the last week... because we moved! And the new house currently doesn't have internet hooked up, so I'm reduced to accessing things on my phone (which works, but isn't ideal) or borrowing wi-fi from friends and relatives (which means driving a bit). With luck, we'll have internet tomorrow, but I'm not counting on it getting hooked up for another week.
The new house is incredible!! I'm still just absolutely in love. Yesterday we finally got our bed out of storage and set it up (we've been sleeping on the guest bed, which is nice but smaller), probably the best night of sleep I've had in a month! And it's so funny, because in our last house the bed basically filled our bedroom and in this one we're still swimming in space around it! I can't get over how much bigger all the rooms are (even though that's exactly the reason we decided to move). We set up our dining room table, which is really not that big but managed to mostly fill the dining room in the old house... and in this one, it looks absolutely teeny!
We had one amusing thing happen with the move... we had to be out of our old house by 9:00pm on Wednesday night and managed, with a lot of mad scrambling, to be out by 9:30 (we were communicating with the buyer through our agent and she was fine with that). I felt bad because I hadn't been able to get it as clean as I'd wanted, although we did wipe down all the cupboards and drawers in the kitchen and vacuum everything. But anyway, yeah... mad scramble. And the next morning we got up, went into the kitchen in our new house to have breakfast and started looking for the box with the silverware. At which point the question popped up: "Didn't you pack the silverware?" Neither of us could remember packing it... and thinking back, in all the drawers and cupboards I'd cleaned, I couldn't remember cleaning that one. So, we contacted our agent who contacted the buyer's agent who contacted the buyer... and sent us back an email with her phone number so we could just arrange to pick it up. The buyer told us she'd been amazed out how clean everything was when she got into the house and so was very surprised to open a drawer and find the silverware! She'd figured we'd somehow missed it and had been waiting to hear from us. We stopped back by the old house this morning (which was so strange, being there as a guest after living there for almost 15 years) and got the silverware and chatted with her about the house, filling her in on some of the things we'd done and how stuff (like the networking) worked. Also let her know about the raspberries and blueberries in the backyard that are just about to ripen. Turns out, she works in the building next to
rackham and is in the same division. Odds are they'll bump into each other in the cafeteria from time to time! Small world.
