This and that
May. 3rd, 2013 11:06 amLast weekend was our 24th wedding anniversary... which still just blows me away. Where has the time gone? We'd originally planned to spend the weekend out in Ocean Shores on the Washington coast (our usual weekend away spot is a bit south of there at Long Beach, Washington... but we'd decided to try a new area this time, in part because we've found most of the Geocaches in the Long Beach area), but we ended up canceling our reservations so we could spend the weekend working on getting the house ready to sell. We did go out to a "new" restaurant, though (that I loved as much as its predecessor): Hugo's Organic.
( A brief explanation about Hugo's and the restaurant that came before it, under the cut. )
Packing and prepping the house for sale continues apace. It's funny because it went from being an overwhelming task, to really feeling like we were making headway and back to feeling overwhelming again. The thing is, I look around and realize that what we've got left in the basement is basically it (well, that and the papers still being sorted in the living room). The real problem is that it's just fiddling small stuff that has to be gone through and packed with similar things (assuming we can find similar things) and it's really kind of tedious, so it feels like it's taking *forever*. I've found it really helps to leave for awhile and come back... it's always a shock to walk into the library and see exactly how little is left to do.
But on top of that, we still have some painting to do and trim to install and yardwork to tackle and less than a week to have the bulk of it done (since that's when the stager is coming to stage the house for the photos that will be taken next weekend). Thankfully, we'd decided to take a major vacation moratorium this year in order to really move on the idea of getting a new house, so
rackham has plenty of vacation days available... and he's been using them. It's been great having him home more often to help with the heavy stuff and to work on the bits of remodeling that are left. Although it's really thrown off my internal calendar! Every time he stays home, I keep thinking it's Saturday.
One funny thing when the stager was going through our house last week... she got a bit excited about some of the stuff we had sitting around and made the comment about how easy it would be to stage one of the extra bedrooms as a Star Wars kid's room. All I could think was "Yeah. A *kid's* room." :-p
ETA: I think I may have just figured out why it keeps feeling like we're not getting anywhere. When I'm sitting at my desk, the bookcase next to my computer is chock-filled with things... so with my peripheral vision, it looks like not only have things not been cleared out, but are more cluttered than ever! The thing is... that's the only bookcase left on that wall. The rest have all been cleared (which is why this one is more full than normal, it has the odds and ends from the others) and are actually gone! I need to remember to turn around and look at the rest of the room more often.
