Amusing moment on the news
Feb. 11th, 2013 10:15 amOn the morning news today, one of our local meteorologists was giving a fairly standard warning... that it's "jacket with a hood" weather (seriously, this is a common thing from all the on-air meteorologists here). She then related the story of the time one of the producers, who was new to the area, asked her "Why don't you just say it's Umbrella Weather?" Everyone on set this morning had the same response... "Umbrellas? Who uses umbrellas?"
It's one of those little peculiarities about living in the Puget Sound area that I kinda love. Unless it's absolutely pouring (which doesn't actually happen often) or you've got some very specific reason you really don't want your hair or clothes to get wet, everyone just walks in the rain. I suspect it's largely because it really does drizzle here a LOT and if you spent all that time worrying about keeping dry, you'd have a hard time getting anything else done. It also may be a bit of succumbing to inevitability... You're gonna get wet anyway, so you may as well do it on your own terms. Plus, I suspect a lot of people who live here (myself included), just plain love the rain.
