Rant about buying Sudafed
May. 8th, 2009 08:59 pmSo, like most states, they make you feel like a criminal here if you want to buy an effective decongestant (and, surprise surprise, it doesn't seem to have stopped the REAL criminals from getting as much of the stuff as they want any time they want, but that's a rant for another day), although at least we're able to buy it without a prescription (which they do require in Oregon). I've gotten resigned to this to the point where it barely even annoys me anymore... but I keep running into another problem that makes me want to *headdesk* myself into unconsciousness.
With this blasted bronchitis, I've also been dealing with some sinus issues and my doctor recommended taking some Sudafed to help clear things out (Sudafed has been my favorite since childhood, when I actually did have a prescription for the stuff to treat chronic ear infections -- I even made up little rhymes about how wonderful it was). I used the last of our previous supply yesterday so, like an idiot, I went to the pharmacy counter at the Safeway up the road while picking up a few things for dinner. Why would this make me an idiot? Well, because for the past several years I've gone in there every few months and asked if they had any 24 Hour Sudafed in stock and would be told "Oh, they don't make that anymore." (Cue panic, at least the first few times... I know better now.) I'll look at them like they're crazy, they'll swear up and down that, even though I just bought some less than a month ago from a different pharmacy, it really isn't being made anymore. I don't know why I keep thinking things will change and that they'll get a clue... but I consistently get this same response from whoever happens to be working.
Sure enough, I drove up the road to a local drugstore chain and they had a stack of them (although, obviously, I just bought one box). But gah!!! You know, I wouldn't mind if they just told me "Oh, we don't stock that." But no... they have to be practically religiously convinced that it doesn't exist anymore and try to correct my thinking that it does. I need to remember not to go there anymore for Sudafed... since it's obviously an exercise in futility that I don't need when my head already feels like it's going to explode.
