The year so far...
Jan. 2nd, 2009 09:13 pmWe had fun New Year's Eve, after watching the incredibly bad Midnight coverage out of Las Vegas (which was the closest thing we could find to "local" and it was really, really not -- this is one of the reasons I prefer to be home for New Year's Eve... at least there we have live coverage of the Space Needle exploding), several of my in-laws and I were sort of crashed out in the living room and started making the obligatory comments: "I feel like I've been sitting in this chair ALL YEAR" and "Man, am I thirsty... I haven't had anything to drink this year" followed by "First person in the house to stand up all year!!" Oh, yeah, we're all comedians. :-p
We tried doing a bit of shopping at the after-the-holidays sales, but didn't find anything particularly exciting... except for several more cases of baking mixes from Lehi Roller Mills, which we'll actually keep to hand out next year to friends and co-workers for the holidays (they're a huge hit at Rackham's office). I looked into a few clothing stores, but none of the current styles excite me and I'd probably just need to replace whatever I buy now in a few months anyway (aside from the initial glee when I've gone down yet another size, the whole clothes-shopping thing is getting to be more than a little tedious).
I am very glad we decided NOT to leave on New Year's Eve. Even though the roads were better than they had been, they still were pretty horrible and we likely would have ended up getting stuck in one of two places for longer than we'd planned, since they kept closing the mountain passes on the 31st and the 1st. Tomorrow is still looking pretty good, as long as we don't leave too early. It got warm-ish here today so the snow melted a bit, then we got some light freezing rain and the temps are supposed to plummet tonight freezing everything and bringing more snow on top of it all, so things aren't going to be pretty until it warms up a little. But the skies should be clear and the roads should at least be passable. I can't wait to get home.
Even more important than all of the above, today is my my LJ-versary!!! Happy LJ-versary to me!!! Six years since I finally got an account. I'd been bumming around, posting on other people's LJ's anonymously and just tagging it with my name at the end (yes, I was one of THOSE people) until my friends finally convinced me that if I had an account, then the reply notifications would actually get sent to me. So, once again I want to thank
queenofthorns for giving me the code to get an account (because you needed one back in those days). LJ remains the first place I check in the morning and the last place I check at night.
