Happy LJ anniversary to me!!!
Jan. 2nd, 2008 04:32 pmAnd happy new year to everyone else!
Today is my five year anniversary on LJ!! Woohoo!!!
I was actually posting here before then on other people's LJs, until (I believe)
queenofthorns convinced me to get my own account so that at least any replies would get sent to me and I didn't have to keep posting anonymously. At the time, I'd had no intention of ever making any real entries to my journal... something that obviously didn't last very long at all. I'm so glad I succumbed, though, since I've met some absolutely wonderful people here and made some incredible friends I likely never would have bumped into, otherwise!
As for our big road-trip, we finally made it home last night, after spending the night at my mom's in Elgin, OR (not far from La Grande, OR). We'd originally intended to make it at least to Pendleton or Tri-Cities (
rackham *really* wanted to get home that night, but I absolutely did NOT want to still be on the road anytime after 11:00pm on New Year's Eve), but then we hit a solid sheet of ice on the freeway, starting not far outside of Baker and lasting for about 15-20 miles. Thankfully, everyone on the road was being sane and going slow, but it was pretty nerve-wracking.
New Year's Eve, itself, was fun... even though I was the only one who made it up until Midnight (watching the national coverage out of Portland via satellite -- I really wish we'd been home to see the local Seattle coverage, because apparently the annual blowing up of the Space Needle didn't got precisely to plan), since my mom and step-dad had just gotten home from a whirlwind trip to Portland and, of course, Rackham was exhausted from dealing with the icy roads. Earlier in the evening, we had fun sitting around chatting and going through some old photos and family keepsakes... my mom gave me a box of stuff from my great-grandmother that she'd found while going through their storage recently. I'll actually go into that a bit more in another post, because some of the stuff in there was beyond incredible... things I hadn't seen in ages and a few things I had no idea existed. All of it labeled in my great-grandma's tight cursive and containing her very dry sense of humor. It was almost like having her there again.
And now, for that whole "resolution" thing... although I prefer to set goals for the new year. I think it's a little harder to fail that way, as long as you're working toward them in some fashion. Last year's goals never made it onto my LJ, which is just as well, since most of them involved me having fully working shoulders again well before now. :-p I did have a goal to finish reading 50 books in 2007, something that would have been embarrassingly easy, once upon a time, but that I wasn't even able to come close to (I believe I read 17). After the car accident, I had a great deal of difficulty holding books to read them for close to six months... so I started reading a LOT of fanfic over on my PDA. I never thought of book-reading as being a "habit" (it just seemed like the natural way of things) but apparently it is, because it's definitely one I've gotten out of.
