Another day at the Con!
Sep. 1st, 2007 08:27 amI spent the rest of Friday bopping around the various Con hotels (there are three of them) and managed to get a seat at the presentation on technological advancements from Georgia Tech. The room ended up being packed, standing room only, and the guy doing the presentation seemed more than a little dismayed by the number of people... asking "What are you all here for!?!" (half-jokingly). They've been coming up with some really cool stuff there, though.
sandy_s and I kept completely failing to meet up, despite the advantage of cellphones... we were going to try to get together for the Buffy Horror Picture Show (aka Buffy Musical Sing Along), but the crowds in the Hyatt were unbelievable, even compared to previous years.
snarkel was keeping me company while I tried to figure out where Sandy was, and we eventually ended up outside, where the fire marshall wasn't allowing anyone back in (I still need to find out how long Snarkel had to wait before they'd let her get back in to her hotel room). The line for the Musical was also insane, and the 10:00pm showing filled up fast... I'd ridden into the con with
rosiewook and
jedihealer who had been wanting to stay for the Musical as well, but not if it meant getting home after midnight (and I had to agree), so after a huge amount of confusion we eventually met back at the car (I'd ended up at the completely opposite end of the hotel, and with the crowds, it was not easy to get back around) and got back to the house around 10:30... but then Jedihealer and I sort of blew the whole "get to sleep early" thing by staying up and gabbing until almost 1:00.
This morning I was hoping to get to the Hyatt before the parade, but no luck... I ended up getting stuck across the street from the hotel, which wasn't too bad, because I had a great view of the parade route. Coolest. Thing. Ever. A fannish parade through the streets of downtown Atlanta!
I'm back in the food court, and once again I bumped into Snarkel... considering the sheer number of people here, the odds of meeting up with someone you know even ONCE are pretty high, but we seem to be making a habit of it! I'm probably going to miss the Mythbusters panel, unless I can slip in a bit late, and I'm definitely going to try for the Buffyverse Q&A again, but other than that, I'm not sure what I'm going to do. Hopefully, Sandy and I will be able to track each other down at some point... especially since I'd really like someone to go to the concert with tonight!
More later, if I get the chance!
