fenchurch: (passionfruit)
About a week ago, we got to do the dance of produce-buying joy after spying some passionfruit on sale at Top Foods in Woodinville... for only $1.99 each (which, around here, is actually a really good price... keeping in mind the last time we found passionfruit a few months ago, it was selling for $3.99 each. Ouch). Which meant only one thing: Cheesecake!!!!!

So, last sunday Rackham made some of his wonderful homemade cheesecake (a la Alton Brown) and we invited some friends round for dinner... )

We've recently embarked on what we're now calling The Astounding, Ever-Expanding Laundry Room Sink Replacement Project. It all started when the stopper thingy in the laundry room sink broke. Keep in mind that when we bought the house, the laundry room (which is also a quarter-bath), having been finished off in the late-80s, was the most modern room in the house. However, the folks who built it had simply put in a regular bathroom vanity with a regular bathroom sink. I've never been happy with it in there, because it's completely inadequate for functioning in a laundry room, and the sink was now constantly stoppered because the lever for the drain-stop was broken. Fine, it should be fixable or at least easily replaceable. Except if we're going to replace the sink, it would be nice to have a REAL laundry room type sink in there, and it won't work with the current vanity (a very nice one that actually has drawers -- meaning no room for the larger, deeper sink). So, we decided we could live with having to pry up the stopper every time we needed the sink to drain, at least for a little while.

And then a few weeks ago, the psychics employed by Home Depot sent us a coupon for 12 months/no interest (technically, I think it was the credit card department noticing that we hadn't used ours in several years). Well, we'd just been debating whether to buy a new lawnmower or hire someone to mow the lawn for us... and the lawn, itself, was rapidly approaching jungle status while we deliberated. So, we drove up to Home Depot to check out the wares... and while we were there, decided to just take a look at what it would cost to replace the vanity and sink in the laundry room. We ended up not buying anything that night or even spending a whole lot of time there, since the first thing we'd done in the store was pick up a few bags of bark mulch which turned out to be cedar (did I mention I'm allergic to cedar?) and ended with me not being able to speak AT ALL for three days, and only slowly gaining back my voice over the following week. Yeah, that kinda sucked.

So, skipping to the next day, with me practicing my mostly non-existent mime skills, we headed back to Home Depot )

So... what started as needing to simply replace the sink in the laundry room is ending with a plan to completely gut the room, put in new fixtures, cabinets, shelving, tile, lighting and a window. Should be fun.

In other news, one of these days I think I'm just going to have to make several pic-spam posts and get it over with, since I never seem to get around to posting pictures, otherwise. I've got photos from our trip to England still to share and pictures of our costumes from the LOTRO launch party (during which I was almost completely mute (see above re: allergic reactions and laryngitis)) and now pictures of our mini-construction project, already in progress!
