Friday in London
Oct. 6th, 2006 08:50 pmWell, I don't know what our cabbie was fussing over, since it only took us about 35 minutes to get from Brent Cross Station to Tower Hill Station, and that was with the five minute stop at Euston Station while they evacuated the rear two cars and removed a suspicious package.
( We ended up spending most of the day at the Tower of London. )
After that we walked up to Tower Bridge, completely missing the entrance to the Tower Bridge Experience (I think we were too busy looking up the River Thames and saying things like "This is so cool! We're standing over the River Thames!! Squee!!"). By the time we figured out we'd missed the entrance, it was five minutes to closing and we didn't want to have to rush. So we walked back to Tower Hill Station, and then wandered around for a bit trying to find Fenchurch Street Station.
Now *that* was a neat experience, though we did get a few odd looks (apparently, Fenchurch Street Station is not high on the list of places tourists like to photograph). But I've been wanting to go there since I was 14... so I was just ecstatic about it. If I get a chance to upload some of the photos, I may see about posting them in a day or two.
We decided to walk up to Aldgate Station, since it wasn't all that far away and we were having a really good time just seeing the streets of London and all the people. After wandering around for a bit, we figured it was time for dinner so we stopped in at a restaurant called Grand Indian Cuisine to try out a dish one of Rackham's co-workers told us we *HAD* to get, Chicken Balti (said co-worker is from London and has been really missing it). And yes, it's extremely yummy!
Most of the touristy things were closed by that point, so we just headed back out to Brent Cross (about a 35 minute ride... not bad at all). So, now we're resting our feet and then we'll probably head across the way to the local Tesco's (assuming they're still open), to pick up a few things (like some ibuprofen).
