Oregon Begin Again
Oct. 8th, 2005 03:00 pmIt's the icon of travel!! Yep, I'm at the Flying J truck stop in LaGrande, Oregon... just about to head home. I'm incredibly glad I'd planned on going this route, too, rather than back up through Montana... it's snowing there, from what I understand, and the MINI isn't the best car to take through that sort of weather.
Had a fun visit with my mom and step-dad... and with their Miniature Dachshund, Daisy. Apparently, they've got a line on a male Toy Dachshund with a good temper so they're thinking, once again, of trying to breed Daisy. The size thing has been a real issue, since she's just this side of being considered a Toy, herself. Of course, if they decide to go through with it, we'll have to make the tough decision of whether to take on a puppy... my mom has offered us first pick of the potential litter, and it would so very tempting. Polly would have even more conniptions than she already is... but I think Zoe would love it (she apparently grew up around dogs).
Northeast Oregon is absolutely gorgeous right now... still fairly green, the leaves on the deciduous trees are starting to turn, and the skies are clear blue and sunny. I can't wait to see the lookout over Pendleton from the top of the Blue Mountains... the only conditions that are better are when it's clear and sunny in the mountains and completely fogged in down below. It looks like you're up incredibly high, above the cloud-line.
BTW, if you ever have to go on long car trips by yourself, I highly recommend the Harry Dresden Audiobooks. Entertaining and interesting, and you get to have James Marsters reading to you for hours on end. Perfect.
