Home for a week
May. 9th, 2005 11:07 pmI finally rolled in around 7:00 this evening... after another drive through weather almost exactly like yesterday's except without the hail or brief respites in rain. It was torrential downpour interspersed with what I like to call "aggressive drizzle."
Even with the nasty weather, I made pretty good time... since I didn't get out of Eugene until almost 2:00 (I decided to sleep in and take my own sweet time getting back on the road, waiting until I was good and ready to face the rain-drenched freeways -- it was an excellent choice). Leaving at 2:00 meant I got to Portland before the really nasty rush hour traffic started and then I didn't reach the Olympia/Tacoma/Bellevue corridor until after most everyone had finished their evening commutes. In fact, the worst traffic was closest to home (for those who know the area at all, it was that stretch of road right before the turnoff at NE 85th all the way up past my exit -- the usual logjam area).
So far, I've managed to unpack, sort laundry, help put a coat of primer on the wall we're planning to paint tomorrow, figure out where I need to go tomorrow for the playtesting at Microsoft and then later for my doctor's appointment over near Northgate, and catch up on "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" (very important!).
If I get a chance tomorrow, I'm planning to work up some sort of review-ish type thing for the book I just finished reading, Doc Sidhe by Aaron Allston. Or maybe I'll just relax after all the running around I need to do and get started in on Jim Butcher's latest Harry Dresden novel.
Oh, and as for the subject line up there... I realized this afternoon that I'm going to need to leave again exactly one week from today to head down to Vegas for the Midnight showing of Episode III. I thought I'd sworn off doing this much traveling after last year! Sheesh.
