Imagine my shock when, after not having access to the internet for four hours, I finally log in to discover the bad news... I still can't quite believe it's really over. And the first thing that pops to mind is "What am I going to do with my free time now?"
This obsession has lasted over seven years now... I've met some fantastic people and made some incredibly good friends I plan on staying in touch with. I've read some of the best fanfic ever written (and that's saying a lot, since I've been reading the stuff for twenty years). And I'm not really ready for it to be over.
On the other hand, I feel a little relieved that it looks to be going out before it has a chance to suck. And, unless she does an about-face (which could happen), it's unlikely SMG will ever appear on the show again... I don't talk about it much, but I lost all respect for the character in the last two seasons of BtVS and never recovered it. I actually used to like and empathize with her, once upon a time... but now, well, I'm just happy at the prospect of her never again getting near characters I still like (i.e. Spike and Angel).
And this also means that James Marsters will be free to pursue other projects (and I'm one of those really hoping he gets the role of Harry Dresden, assuming the television show actually gets off the ground).
Still, I'm feeling like I'm in a bit of a state of shock. I hadn't seriously considered the idea that they'd cancel the show this year. Damn.
In other news, Verizon for once did some quickly... which unfortunately means we're screwed. They managed to get around to rerouting our DSL connection to our new provider (of both line and ISP) in an extremely timely manner... but the hardware we need for the new configuration is still in transit via UPS. And because Monday is a holiday, that means the earliest we'll have our broadband connection up and running is Tuesday. Life really, really sucks.
Right now I'm over at a friend's house on my laptop using her wireless connection (I've already warned her that she may look out in her driveway at 2:30 in the morning to see me checking my email), and hopefully we'll have the backup dial-up access working before too long. But it means my net access over the next few days is likely to be very sporadic... so if you send me email, it may take me awhile to get back to you.
