I was snarking about this to some fellow Western US friends just a bit ago... the WABC website had the headline "Power Outage Hits NYC, Apparently Much of U.S." followed by a short article about how the power was out in NYC, New Jersey, Cleveland, Detroit, and Toronto (which is, you know, not in the US as per the headline). So, evidently the feeling was that there isn't a whole lot to the US outside of those areas... although, last time I checked, there's a huge freakin' bunch of the country outside the areas mentioned. "Apparently Much of U.S." *grumble*grumble*
Not that I'm not worried about my friends in those areas and that I don't think it's a serious thing... the headline just got my dander up a bit.
Now, though, I'm starting to wonder if it might be somewhat true... in that message traffic online seems to have ground to a screeching halt since it happened (and humorously enough, the FOXNews website hasn't updated in about an hour and a half). I'm guessing that a lot of the people who aren't in the areas actually affected may be having problems getting online, as routers along the East Coast have gone down with the power.
To everyone in the area affected (not that you'll be able to read this for awhile), get home safe!! Then do what I do when the power goes out... light some candles, boot up a laptop, and dial in to check email.
