First off, a big smoochy happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] rackham. Love you, cutie!

We'd originally planned on going to Celtic Bayou for dinner tonight, but Rackham decided that sushi and Crème Brûlée sounded even better than Irish and Cajun food, so we headed over to Todai instead. I wasn't going to complain! Especially since I got to eat crab legs and octopus (apparently, it's in season or something because they had it everywhere today in lots of different forms... including tempura!) and several little baby ramekins of Crème Brûlée (they may have had 1/8 of a cup in them, if that). Yum!!

On Tuesday, I finally bit the bullet and added strength training to my workout routine. I'd met with a trainer a year or so ago and got instruction on the machines (which ones I should use and how to do it) but was still a bit intimidated by them (plus, I liked where I was with my workout at that point). Well, I thought I'd done a really good job this week of going easy, especially with anything involved my shoulders (for obvious reasons) and when I got done with my workout, I felt great! And continued to feel great all day... until the pain in my shoulders woke me up around 3:00am. And again around 4:00. And around 4:30. And, well, you get the idea. Wednesday night, for the first time in over a year, I took Tylenol PM in order to stay asleep... and woke up around 4:00am when it wore off. Ouch. Thankfully, things seem to be back to normal today, so I'm going to give it another go tomorrow... being even MORE careful this time.

I really need to take the time to post all the photos I've been taking. [livejournal.com profile] curiouswombat started doing that 365 Photos thing at the first of the month, and I rather liked the idea so I picked up on it, as well. Unlike her, though, I keep forgetting to actually share them here. Oops. I think I may make a page for the first month out on our servers and just post a link to it, because I suspect it would be a bit overwhelming to post them all straight to my LJ. Then I just need to see if I can keep up here in the future.

I've started baiting the Cat Entertainment Center again, which is always great fun. The CEC is actually a bird-feeder and suet-feeder on the back deck, in front of the sliding glass doors... and it can keep the cats busy for hours. It's been funny to watch the cats get more and more worked up about the birds and squirrels showing up to eat (especially the Dark-Eyed Juncos that like to eat the spilled seed off the ground right in front of the doors) then they'll go over to their food bowl and sort of tear into their kibble (and you can so tell that in their minds they're tearing into pretty little birds). I wish I'd been a little faster on the draw with my camera the other day, though, when we had a Pileated Woodpecker land on the deck railing... I was on the phone with [livejournal.com profile] taradaktyl at the time and it actually startled me a bit. Those suckers are HUGE, but absolutely stunning... it was probably drawn in by the suet feeder. Can't wait for the Northern Flickers and Steller's Jays to show up (which might be awhile, considering how cold it's been lately).

Wish him a big Happy Birthday!

As for the year in pics thing - I think your idea to post a link a month is really good - I went for weekly to make it easier to post them, too.

LOL! I think I should put up a bird feeder in our next place, just to drive Quincey crazy. She loves feathers, so I have a feeling that if I could lure birds to the balcony, she'd go nuts...

Then it's probably only a matter of time before the show up and start beating the squirrels away from the feeder!

Well, I think I'll just do the month of March as a single unit and then try for weekly after that. It'll be a bit less daunting to pull together, I think.

Oh yeah... it's like kitty television. Our cats will even complain at us if there aren't any birds around, as if we can make them appear magically by flipping a switch or something.

Oh, I am envious of your birds!!! We get mostly sparrows, finches, and linnets; occasionally locals like thrashers and cactus wrens, a variety of doves, a large number of always-aggressive mockingbirds, and a couple varieties of hummingbirds. The starlings are starting to be seen more and more up in this neighborhood, and of course grackles. The only woodpeckers we see are little Gila woodpeckers (although to be honest, I mostly hear them).

(Oh, and of course, happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] rackham!!!)
