I sympathize. There's a co-worker who comes into my office and leaves me choking after he's gone. I have to vacate my office sometimes because his cologne lingers so strongly and I can't breathe. (I've complained directly to him; he's not from the US and doesn't understand what I mean.)
Hope it doesn't happen again, but maybe you could mention it to your gym's front desk? They could post a reminder.
