Tidbits of the last week and a half

You know, looking back over the past week and a half, I'm a bit surprised to note that I haven't actually updated here since we got back from Utah. Wow. So, apparently thinking really hard about the stuff I wanted to write in my LJ doesn't really count, no matter how convinced my brain becomes that it does (not cool, brain... not cool).

Nothing huge has happened... [livejournal.com profile] rackham spent a week being really sick (which makes life incredibly difficult because whenever one of us is ill we institute the No Kissing rule... do you know how HARD that is?), until he finally went to the doctor, got diagnosed with a sinus infection and put on medication, and started getting better almost immediately. Yay modern medicine!!

Last week, I got to go on a field trip to the fire station with the Cub Scouts. That was fun!! I haven't done that since I was probably their age... and a lot has changed since then. I kind of wish they did those sorts of tours for adults from time to time, because it was quite educational. Especially now that I've actually experienced being rescued by EMTs and getting to ride in an ambulance (something I hope I never have to do again).

I've switched back to reading Janet Evanovich books while I work out... I tried reading Harry Dresden books (since I'm still running behind on that series), but they didn't lend themselves well to the short spurts of reading I'm able to do that way. While I'm enjoying JE's books, they're much easier to put down when the timer on the LifeCycle is done.

The biggest news, I guess, is that I decided to head back down to Utah next month for Life, the Universe and Everything 27: The Marion K. "Doc" Smith Symposium on Science Fiction and Fantasy. I checked airfare and discovered that it was actually at an affordable level, then called my in-laws to make sure I could stay there (which is given, really, but it still seems polite to at least ask :-p). My mother-in-law mentioned that I'd have my choice of cars to borrow, since they'll be taking the new one on their big trip (they'll be leaving a day or so after I get there) and my brother-in-law (who lives up here now) won't have had a chance to come get the old car. Well, the wheels started churning and I made some phone calls... and now I'll be flying down there and driving back. This way I can stop and visit my mom on the way home and my brother-in-law doesn't have to take time off work and fly down just to get the car. Plus he's going to give me gas money for the trip back. Win-win, all the way around. Now I just have to seriously pray for good weather, or I may be stuck in Utah for a bit.

That sounds like a really interesting event to attend! I shall live vicariously through you and wait for reports when you get back :)

I used to love taking my Girl Scouts on field trips, too! I know I enjoyed them as much as the girls. They really are fun and interesting. :-)

I am enjoying the Stephanie Plum series a lot and you're right, they're easy to put down and pick up again.

Hope you don't get sick!

How do you manage to read while you are working out?

The trip to Utah sounds great.
