fenchurch: (New Year Hat)

I have no New Year's Resolutions... at least no new ones, since I save resolutions for the start of my own personal year (i.e. my birthday), but I do have a few things that are more along the lines of goals or plans or hopes, I guess. And today is certainly the day to put them down in pixels!

The first is one I failed to do last year: Finish at least 50 books in the next year. I'm off to a rolicking start, because I finished Three To Get Deadly by Janet Evanovich earlier this evening. Yay!

Um, now that I think about it... the second is also one I failed to do last year: re-learn how to knit. And I'm also on a good beginning with that one... my mother-in-law got me started on a scarf today, although she won't be able to show me how to end it until she comes to visit in March. :-p I figure I can have a few different projects started by then that she can show me how to finish, or I'll figure it out myself by perusing books and the internet. And then I need to *keep* doing it, so I don't forget again (although the last time I had some mitigating circumstances).

The third, buy an Inkle loom and teach myself how to use it. I've tried borrowing one of my mother-in-law's looms in the past, but never managed to get started on it. I think if I buy my own, I might be a bit more motivated.

Fourth, help [livejournal.com profile] rackham tear out and replace the fireplace and mantle. That *will* happen at some point this year and is probably going to be our next big home improvement project.

Fifth, finally get registered for classes at Cascadia Community College. I keep having things come up (like relatives needing help after emergency surgery, etc.) and getting in the way of finishing the process.

Sixth is easy (or I hope it will be): keep losing weight until I reach my goal. There are several smaller things associated with this that I'll be posting about later... mostly dealing with ideas for types of exercise and activities I might enjoy. I'm thinking I may try taking some lessons in Scottish Folk Dancing when I get home... the local Scottish Folk Dancing Club gives inexpensive lessons once a week not too far from where I live, and I think I might actually be in good enough shape to not kill myself with it.

And seventh, find a new piano teacher and start practicing again regularly. I miss my old teacher... and the one thing about our lessons was that I knew I'd have at least one half hour a week that I would play, even if it was in front of my teacher.
