Eight Days of Happiness
Dec. 16th, 2008 11:06 pm1. Post about something that made you happy today even if it's just a small thing/s.
2. Do this everyday for eight days without fail.
Practically everyone I know has been doing this one, and I kept meaning to start but would get sidetracked (as often seems to happen to stuff I intend to post here). With any luck, this will get me posting at least *something* once a day.
Day 1:
As some of you know, I've been a Cub Scout Den Leader (for the Wolves, who are the 8-year-old boys, aka hyper human versions of mexican jumping beans) for about a month now. Well, today we were scheduled to go sing Christmas carols at a local Assisted Living facility... and I'll admit, I had my doubts as to how well it would go over. I mean, how many people would really want to go see to a bunch of boys they don't know fidgeting and singing off-key? We had a VERY large crowd who appeared to be having a fantastic time, singing along and chatting with the boys. It was such a simple thing we were doing and the people there were absolutely delighted.
And a much smaller thing... during the morning news broadcast, one of our local stations plays holiday greetings from servicemen and women (and their families) who are stationed overseas and have family in the area. Today there was a family on Andersen AFB on Guam... and about partway through I realized I knew where they were standing. I actually recognized the scenery behind them, because they were standing just down the street from where I used to live. I haven't seen that place since I was 10-years-old (which is way more years ago than I'd like to admit), and yet it was still so familiar. One of these days, I really would like to go back to Guam on vacation... especially if I can arrange for permission to visit the Base, since that's the area I'd be most familiar with.
