Another very sunny day

fenchurchWent walking at 8:30 this morning... MUCH better time of day for it. I've seen some fun wildlife on my walks while I've been here: lizards, jackrabbits and lots and lots of quail.
We started off the day with a drive into downtown Phoenix to the Arizona Science Center to see the Narnia Exhibit. *SO* worth it. It begins in a room where you can see several items that belonged to C.S. Lewis, as well as some props from the movies and some historical photos and items from the Blitz. Then you get to walk into a room that's a sort of recreation of the wardrobe room from the movie, where there's some dramatic music and a dramatic voiceover, ending with the wardrobe doors opening on to Narnia. Yes, it was a bit hokey, but it was also incredibly cool (at least if you're a fan of the books). Looking into the wardrobe, past the fur coats and seeing the lamppost with snow drifting down around it is just... neat!
Apparently, the exhibit is moving on to Philadelphia next and is eventually going to bounce around the country and possibly Canada before heading overseas.
By the time we were done walking through the exhibit, we were starving, so we decided to just grab a bite to eat at the little cafe there at the Science Center. The food was quite good, but later we wished we'd waited just a little bit longer.. because after eating, we headed to the historical square to see what was there and discovered it had several restaurants including a Tea Room, a British Pub & Restaurant (*whimper* I missed being able to have British food!) and the Pizzeria that![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
queenofattolia had just recommended to us (they didn't open until much later in the day, but still).
Then we headed down to the Mystery Castle. What a fun place to tour! And we got to meet the owner (who is the daughter of the man who built the place). Definitely worth your time, if you find yourself in Phoenix when they're doing tours. The guy who built it, I think, was more than a little off his rocker, but he built a fascinating structure... using whatever he could scrounge or create.
We stopped back by the mall in Scottsdale and bought a bunch of peanut butter, but just had them ship everything for us (since they do mail order, anyway). It'll be nice not having to worry about packing the stuff with us up to Utah and then home.
It was a real tossup where we wanted to go for dinner: Boston Market or Sweet Tomatoes. Neither restaurant is in Washington state, although Boston Market used to be. In the end, the idea of fresh food was more appealing and I'm so glad we went. We'd never been to a Sweet Tomatoes before and found it to be a better version of Zoopa/Fresh Choice. Same type of stuff, but a lot more variety. After dinner, we swung by Trader Joe's to get a few things and headed back to the house. All in all, a nice easy day.
