So, I just realized I haven't really updated at all since my late night/early morning entry where I talked mostly in sentence fragments. I've managed to catch up on life here in the last week or so, which is good because I got the call earlier today telling me that my grandmother is well enough to go home... and they'll be releasing her on Friday! Yep, that means I'm hitting the road again tomorrow (aka Thursday).

On the plus side, this meant I was actually in town to go see Great Big Sea tonight! Huzzah!! Although this was probably pretty obvious by the entry I made from the concert. :-) The guys were as wonderful as ever... and I came to the realization tonight that I'm actually a fan of several groups where you can use the statement "Then they brought out the accordion and the crowd went wild!" (the other three being Oingo Boingo, They Might Be Giants and, of course, Weird Al). They did a good mixture of songs from all their albums, including the most recent one that I've only listened to once. It doesn't matter though, since their music is always peppy and energetic and it's hard not to get caught up in it... I was extremely happy that they did their cover of Slade's "Run Run Away" too. I'd never heard that one live and it was a blast!

The best part about this concert, though, was that I was able to clap and, even better, lift my arms above shoulder height! The last time we went to a Great Big Sea concert was just a few months after the car accident... my right arm was still in a sling so I couldn't use it at all and my left arm couldn't even lift as high as shoulder-height. NOT a fun way to go to a concert, in general, and GBS concerts are big on clapping above your head and fist pumping for certain songs... I really missed being part of the audience participation. I definitely got a chance to make up for it this time!!

And during the short intermission, I noticed that the very fannish looking gentleman in front of us was wearing a Consonance t-shirt! Filker!!! So we got to chatting and he was telling me I really do need to start coming to some of the local filksings (I'm on the mailing list, I just always seem to have a conflict on the nights when they happen). All in all an incredibly fun night!

Yay! You love Great Big Sea, too! I don't know anyone else who has heard of them. I am seeing them later this month and am really, really excited. Hurray!

I know and love them too! They are Canada's most excellent, kick-ass Newfoundlanders.

Fen, glad your shoulder is doing so much better!

That was loads of fun. Thanks for taking me. I gotta remember to thank taradaktyl again when I regain my hearing.

I'm jealous! GBS hasn't played Austin for a long time. *pout*
