What's that you say about unreliable narrators?
Well, this whole adventure has been very interesting... I'm in Burley, ID for the night, even though I probably could have made the drive into Idaho Falls without any problems. The stretch of road between here and Pocatello holds *incredibly* bad memories for me, though, and I decided I'd much rather drive it during the day... plus my aunt drove over from Clarkston, WA last night and will be there until Tuesday morning, so there's no reason to rush.
However, with my aunt actually on scene, we're finally getting some things clarified... like the fact that my grandmother is going to be in the hospital for at least another 10 days. And then she's probably just going to move up to the rehabilitation floor for at least another week. In other words, I really won't be needed to help take care of her this week. I'm still going, of course, at least for a few days. I've come this far and at least this way I can go in and spend time with her in the hospital -- keep her company and bring her things from home. I'll probably see if her garden needs weeding. Frankly, I am NOT surprised she's going to be in the hospital that long and I was somewhat prepared for the possibility that I'd get to Idaho Falls and discover that there was very little I'd be able to do.
Apparently, the other aunt who was here on Saturday was told that my grandmother's feeding tube would be removed in three or four days... and interpreted that as meaning that she would then be going home. This is a large part of the reason I was prepared for the possibility that this trip would be somewhat pointless (or at least not quite as point-filled as I'd originally planned)... because I was running the whole scenario in my head and coming up short in a few places. I mean, she's on a feeding tube for three or four days (which was the other info I had), and then they'll be taking it out and immediately sending her home?!? Um, yeah. That wasn't adding up for me.
All in all, I'm still glad I'm making the trip, because I think I'll feel better being *there* and seeing her. And I can help keep the family up-to-date on what her doctors are saying (and hopefully do a much better job of it than we've gotten so far... which won't be hard).
