Thank you, everyone, for your good thoughts and kind words today... I finally got word that my grandmother has come through her surgery okay, although I'm still a little sketchy on the details (I'm getting this info third hand, so I'm at the mercy of what the people before me think to ask).

And it turns out some of the news we had earlier today wasn't exactly accurate... which is what you get when you're playing a giant game of Telephone for real, with a person fairly early in the chain being an 80-something year old man (aka Mr. Neighbor) who got a bit confused about the details. It turns out my grandmother got out of bed just fine this morning and Mrs. Neighbor took her in for her doctor-ordered tests where they found something.... at which point she was immediately admitted to the hospital and they did the surgery. So, it was still serious, but not nearly as dire as we were all led to believe (apparently Mr. Neighbor was absolutely convinced she'd been transported to the hospital by ambulance... even though his wife drove her there *facepalm*).

There's going to be a family conference call tomorrow with my dad, his siblings and the doctor, after which we should have more info on when she'll be able to come home. But at this point, it looks like I'm going to Idaho Falls for a week to assist in her recovery. What a nerve-wracking day. And I'm still not going to rest easy until I hear a bit more about what the doctor has to say (since it will only be secondhand info at that point, and not third or fourth).

I'm just catching up on lj and going at this backwards, and...yikes! This all sounds serious enough, so I can't imagine how you must have felt when it seemed like things were even worse.

I'm doing this backwards so I'll read the original post later but wanted to say that I hope all is well.

You and your grandmother will be in my prayers.

I'm glad it's not as serious as it first seemed. It's amazing how much drama creeps in with every retelling of a story! I hope you have good news soon.

We'll remember her, and your family, in our prayers. Let us know if there's anything we can do by way of errands and so forth to make your journey prep any easier.

I know all about that 'telephone' thing, experienced it myself only recently when my mother ended up in hospital. I didn't get the full story until after she was released, which is when I got to speak with her.

Anyway, I've been praying for your family.

So scary! I'm glad they were able to intervene so quickly. It is all too common a problem and can get very out of control.

From what you've told us of your grandmother, though, she'll be up and running around in no time.

Be safe traveling out there.

I hope everything goes well from here on in.
