Three days, three states

Monday morning I woke up in Utah, having stayed the night at my in-laws' house... we flew home and got to our place about 7:30 and I had one blissful night of sleeping in my own bed. Plus about half an hour of playing fetch with Numfar (yes, she's a cat, but she LOVES to play fetch) before I finally got [livejournal.com profile] rackham to take over for a bit so I could get other things done. A few rushed loads of laundry and some quick unpacking and packing, and that's about it.

Tuesday morning, I woke up in my own bed in Washington state... and, thirteen hours after getting home from the last trip, headed down to the airport. Again. Not much to say about Tuesday, since it was filled with a lot of time sitting on airplanes. Although say what you will about Southwest, I have NEVER had them take over 45 minutes to get all the passengers on board a plane, which is exactly what happened on my USAirways flight out of Seattle. It was a mess. The one bright side is that I ended up not having to pay to check a bag, after all... since I'd purchased my ticket before the policy change what into effect. Yay!

So, I watched four more episodes of Doctor Who, getting me even closer to being caught up. Don't anyone dare spoil me for the finale... I still can't believe I've managed to avoid spoilers so far, and I've only got a few more episodes left to go! I must say, though, that the folks running DW sure know how to do horror/suspense. I *loved* "Silence in the Library" and "Forest of the Dead" although the resolution to the piranha shadows seemed a little... hurried. I really loved that they brought in someone from the Doctor's future, like that. It's something I've always wanted them to do.

Due to the excessively long time it took to get everyone settled on the plane, we left Seattle a bit late which pushed back our arrival time in Charlotte. So, now I can say I've spent about half an hour in the Charlotte airport. Some if it sitting on the plane letting the people who had connecting flights in less than 10 minutes go sprinting down the aisle and then doing some sprinting, myself, since that's a very spread out airport. I got to the gate 25 minutes before we were scheduled to take off, called Rackham to let him know where I was and right about then they started boarding our flight. I hate cutting things so close.

I also managed to get in a bit of reading... finally starting in on Three Days to Never by Tim Powers, which is really nothing like what I was expecting but has really got me hooked.

And now, Wednesday morning I wake up in Kentucky, at [livejournal.com profile] nmissi's house. I went for a nice 40 minute walk this morning... got to see a lot of different flora and fauna (it's always a bit startling to see a flash of red flutter by... Cardinals are about as common here as Steller's Jays (which provide a nice flash of bright blue) are back home). And now I'm waiting for Enterprise to show up to take me to my rental car.

And tomorrow... JadeCon!!!

For a moment I wondered if we were at the airport at the same time, then I realized I was in Portland. Also, I cannot say anything bad about Southwest. They've been terrific in my experience! Every step of the way, everything was organized and efficient and on time. And the flight attendants are wonderfully snarky. A+++. :)

Have fun with Missi! And say hi! :)

NO spoilers here, but ...

You said you loved the two-parter in the Library. The episodes were written by Steven Moffat. He just won his third Hugo award in a row, for season 3's "Blink". He's an incredible writer, AND he's been announced as the new man in charge. Russell is leaving the series after next year's specials.

So what I'm getting at is, if you liked it, great. Cuz we're gonna get even more of the good stuff.

"Blink" is probably my favorite DW episode of all time... even beating out "Kinda" (my previous favorite). I'd heard he was going to be running the show and was really excited just based off that one episode. After these two... I just hope he's as good a showrunner as he is a writer (although I guess he does have experience with "Coupling" even if it is a pretty different type of show).

Can't wait to see what he does with it!

That's a lot of states to see in three days. Sounds rather exhausting, but fun to see different things I'm sure. :)

...and I thought I was behind on DW. You got me beat. I just barely saw the finale. I was a bit spoiled for it, but not enough to ruin me. I've got my lips sealed though, not to worry.

Hope you enjoy your time at JadeCon!

Technically, it was four states in four days, since we woke up in Idaho on Sunday... We were over in Montpelier for a family reunion (it was easiest to fly to Utah, borrow a car and drive up to it).

And yeah... the only thing I really know about the finale is some of the people who show up, but not why or how. Hopefully I'll get a chance to watch the last few episode in the next couple of days.
